UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Nice Poirier goes to the net and slides it between the legs after Peterson took a hit to advance the puck. Great play by Peterson.

Tied at 2

Phew. Max Scott puts it 5 hole to win it in OT.

Maine wins 3-2 in OT

I hope UNH fans that read this get PTSD reaction to the score!

Really big win, one that they kinda had to have.

Honestly, aside from those few minutes in the first, I thought they played pretty well, especially in the third. That's a tough team to play against and they fought thru it, and this (hopefully) might become a touchstone moment that helps launch the rest of the season. I think they looked more like a team tonight as well.

Also, anyone else notice that Ben Barr seemed to have lost his voice in the post-game interview? Wonder if that means he wore it out yelling at the team on the bench and in the room.

Hopefully this gives Maine some momentum for the very important games coming up. Let’s be honest though, this was not a good result at all as far as pairwise goes. I think Maine played a pretty good game tonight, there just isn’t much between these teams.

D looks lazy and too offensively minded; it seems like even vets are going too deep into o-zone and coughing up the puck and giving up odd man rushes. Still so many lazy passes and bad turnovers. Has Chabrier always been this crafty and eager to take the extra touch? Not sure how beneficial it is for the team at this moment but it seems like his skating and hands are becoming elite. Langlois is a little scary at times but has so much skill and vision. I really like watching him. Gerrior's skating and hands are also sick. Sully seems to be improving in well-rounded ways but I don't like this C experiment

I agree on all points. I damn near went to baseball during the first. It was a same/shit, next/day 1st.

Maine pulled together and was the much better team in the 2nd and 3rd.

And, yeah, Barr could barely speak post-game, and that just had to be a result of tearing some guys new assholes during the first intermission.

I see glimmers of hope. Winning cures every ill, sure, but with all these new players, Maine has to figure out who they are. I see this game as an important step forward against a team that's big, well-coached and talented. I would compare 'Gate favorably with the Q in those respects.

Tonight was better but still not good enough in my opinion. I thought the Fowler, Russell, Djurasevic, scholle group played much better tonight and the effort was much more evident. I think Nadeau probably changes that series a bit especially on the PP so hopefully we see him next week.

Overtime win is a start but will need their A game next week vs BU. Maine has the talent to compete and a sold out alfond should help make a difference.

Also full respect to Colgate who I thought were really sharp and can compete with Quinnipiac based on what I saw.

Barr's hoarse voice is hysterical. Really though, it's disappointing to hear about (the obvious/predictable) culture issues. I really hope *he* has a plan for the culture piece rather than delegating to player leaders or others on the staff. This was just an (1) obvious hole (that has translated into them falling on their face at crucial times in the past), (2) something to be expected/planned for given the make up of this yrs' team, and, (3) something the program has more than ample resources to address in a creative/intentional way
