UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Northeastern over BC wtf??

My company gave timmay a lot of money ( at least for me a lot)for the shawn walsh addition but he lost me when he was whinning about recruiting to orono. I loved the thought of Reds hire, shows what I know. Great guy, not so great coach

This is going to be a controversial take, but was Timmy wrong? If we’re honest very little has changed over the last 20 years even with three different coaches. Bringing Alfie in has drastically improved the goaltending but as far as the 18 skaters go the teams have been the same for the most part.

I don’t blame the coaches at all for Maine’s failings. People still don’t appreciate just how good Shawn was and we’ll never see something like that again. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy what we do have.

Timmay fired Grant

One thing has changed in that time. Maine won a hockey east tournament. Last one Maine won was 21 years before that.

If you don’t see where the program is with its upward momentum then as I said before you have the mental capacity of a stump.

Do you honestly think the program, as it is today, is no better than when Timmay and Red drove it into the ditch?

I see more of the same if I’m brutally honest. Barr deserves full marks for what he got out of the team last three years with the combination of incredible goaltending and a motivated group, but most of those guys have moved on now. If you look big picture I just don’t see that the talent has changed in any meaningful way.

Theres been an uptick in talent to orono with Barr, not huge but better. One thing to gauge that by is that Barr has a functional 4 lines for the last couple seasons and looks like this year too. Red had a hard time with that.

Barr did something that Timmay/Red never did and brought a first round pick to Orono. On paper this is the most talented team Maine has had in well over a decade. There’s what, 12 or 13 new players on the team this year? Of course they’re having a slow start.

People crying three weeks into the season is pathetic. If they still look like shit in February we can start ringing some alarm bells but come on. Anyone who thought this team would be firing on all cylinders right out of the gate needs to give their head a wobble. CHL guys around the NCAA as a whole seem to have come in a little arrogant and are struggling to adjust to playing men, not teenagers. Some of the returning guys like Russell and Djurasevic may have been coasting a little bit early on but the sky isn’t falling. The team needs to simplify things on the ice and get some mental toughness and they’ll be fine.

There are a handful of tickets available for the weekend. None in the balcony, so it seems the students are going to show...

Too bad NIL came along when it did. I would like to have seen what Barr could do recruiting wise with a more level playing field before schools started literally buying players. BC/BU/Michigan/Michigan State/Penn State are a tough bunch to overcome.

On a side note.....does anyone have an answer yet as to what the hockey program is going to do with the $6 million check that they were handed back during the grand opening?

I hope they invest it and just use the returns of 240k each year for payouts at a 4% conservative yield. And this keeps the original 6 million preserved. And if they don’t use it all then principal increases. And if they get more donations add it to the principal. I’m guessing this is what they are working towards so that they don’t just spend it all and deplete donations. This is likely what most schools are doing. But those schools have bigger accounts so the 4% is a lot more.

It is too bad they don’t have a thumbs down feature for this website. I would make thumbs down to this.

We have 5 guys on the team that have been drafted. Some of our other guys weren’t but some are all hockey east team types(Boija, Holt, Djuresevic).

I also track the average NZ rating for the team each season. This is very high compared to previous seasons. Starting forward lines are an avg of 3.9 rating, starting d pairs are an avg of 3.94, and goalie is 4+ as Boija isn’t rated. But he’d be a 4.5 right now if he was.

So these are things with facts behind them instead of just “I feel like” from someone that likes being a contrarian more than an actual fan. Until further notice your last name initial stands for Stumpy… Drew Stumpy has a good ring to it.

Christmas comes early to Alfond. BU capitalizes.

Then Maine ties the score ... But it's under review for goaltender interference.

7 seconds between goals.

It's a goal. 1-1. BU loses its timeout.
