UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I agree with most of what has been said. However, this team does have more talent than the the first two teams after the last FF appearance, and about as much as the last 3 years. Bottom line - no team at the div 1 college, or any pro level is gonna win without goaltending, and we havn't had it for over 4 years now. We have an exceptional top line, and enough other descent fowards for a reasonable second line, but Tim can't seem to piece that together. A great line, a good line, and a couple of other neutralising lines are enough to win more than we are winning. The defense has enough skill to be better than they are. 80 % of our trouble lies in goaltending and and head coaching.

Whitehead stinks, but the players aren't good either with the exception of 10, 13, 27, 39...Whitehead's fault for not recruiting better talent. All this crap about the team being talented and Whitehead holding them back is laughable. The team has one line, no goaltending, no coaching.

We have a winnuh!

Open your eyes folks, this years' 2nd through 4th lines would have been in the stands when Walsh was coach!

Another impact alumni who'd come back east in a flash to replace Whathead, given the opportunity.
When he first took the job with Colorado he was still living in the Bangor area. Not sure if that is still the case, but he didn't plan on relocating.

All bear...what's up? That is just a trashy comment made by someone who, sadly, doesn't have more in his life.
I know that is not your ME up-bringing...don't let yourself down:)

Tell me who besides Flynn, Abbott, Diamond, Beattie, Mangene (good PKer, hard working 4th liner), and O'Neill (good PP d-man, not good defensively) would have even been on a Walsh coached team? There is no talent on this team. The coach is terrible. He stinks at recruiting. He stinks at x's and o's. Get him out of here. He has ruined what was once a proud, proud program. I gave him benefit of the doubt until 2-3 years ago. The first few awful seasons, I bought his excuses. Not anymore.

Flynn and Abbott would be 2nd/3rd-line guys, Joey and Mangene 3rd/4th, and no way O'Neill played D for Walsh. (He's awful in his own end, and on the point.) Beattie would've been fighting for the right to dress for games at this point in his career.

I don't care if Scotty Bowman himself takes over this team; they aren't going to turn it around in a year or two... But it's high time to start the process. (Not that things hadn't already reached rock-bottom a few seasons ago.)

"IF" or when a New Coach comes in,he has a job on his hands...but not impossible...first their has to be a BIG improvement in Net,change the mindset to playing with grit/attitude and tough in your face hockey...conditioning before Camp, not during the season...start with the net out/change and work on the D-men and finally come to the rink with a positive approach instead of: We are better now after that lost,I like what we did even if we did lose...I like this Team.....be able to want to win not talk like your a winner. Losing sucks and coming to play to win is what you want in your players and Coaches....nothing LESS.

My bad. How about 'this Maine team goes down faster than a BU grad at a BC orgy.' Hows that?

Here's a Whitehead positive, in light of the Trivino news: no Maine hockey player has been arrested since who, Nick Payson?

I will say that even though they aren't the most talented guys on the team, Higgins and Swavely bring hustle on every shift.

They have Walsh-esque intangibles that make you notice when they're out there chasing down pucks.

Perron still lives in the area with his wife Renee and they have a kid or two.

2nd / 3rd line guys? They are 2 of the top 6 forwards in the league. The only guys I would think about taking over them right now would be Kreider, Moses, Nieto. The problem is they get NO production from the 3rd and 4th lines, NONE. The 2nd line has chipped in here and there but in general haven't done much either. I think if you move Mangene between Flynn and Abbott there is still plenty of offense on the 1st line. Drop Diamond to 2nd line with Beattie and Anthoine and you may have something there. Go with an all freshman line as a 3rd line to see if you can develop some chemistry at the very least for next year.

As far as defense and goaltending, I don't see much hope. Sullivan is OK but will almost never steal a game (something this team needs). Marty looks to be a lost cause at this point. The defense is just terrible. I think Heagarty has probably been the most consistent this year, which is saying a lot after how bad he was last year. O'Neil is clearly struggling, he needs a real stay at home defensive, defenseman to be effective (something this team does not have). Nemec, Pryor, Cornell - I could do without all of them. I think O'Connor has some potential to be a player. Rutt, from the couple games I have seen him this year is too slow to contribute this year. Definitely needs to work on his skating/ speeed in the off season.

Then of course, there is the coaching. These guys have tuned Whitehead out for the last couple of years. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but as seen throughout the league- a new voice can do great things even on mediocre teams.
