TIMMAY resign yet?

Maine Coach Tim Whitehead said, "I didn't see that coming

The story of his tenure.

Maine's got 19 games left in the season, and eight of those are against BC, BU, UNH, and Merrimack. How many wins do you see out of those eight? Plus, two more against an improved NU team, and one each against Lowell and PC in their rinks, and how many wins do you see coming there?

We're talking at best, best, 8-9 more wins over the remainder of the season. TIMMAY, do us all a favor and just walk away.

Being a fan of this team is like being in a long term marriage thats recently gone very bad. You remember the good times. You want to stick it out. For brief times, it seems like things might be getting back on track. But just when you think that, games like last night raise their ugly head and you get slapped back down. The heck with any 4th, 5th, or 6th place finish. We need to keep wallowing in mediocrity against the bad teams while continuing to get spanked by the good ones. Then, and only then, do we have a real chance of getting this coach removed at the end of this season. Northeastern, Lowell, Merrimack, and even Providence are sporting descent teams. They have to recruit against the same BC's and BU's that we do. I think a reasonable question might be, how would this team be performing right now if Jack Parker were our coach?

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Jack Parker, hell, I'd kill to have Nate Leamon as coach.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I wonder if anyone IN the MEDIA would be interested in doing a piece on coaching in college hockey and showing examples of what it takes to win. WHat it takes to get the team to adjust.

For instance, i wonder if anyone in the media COULD POSSIBLY watch Tim Whitehead during a game and see just how many times he talks to players coming off the ice and tells them what they did right and what they did wrong and what to look out for in what the other team is doing.
You know... coaching... AND how many times he uses a WHITEBOARD during a game to explain new ideas and perhaps even to reexplain the system that he chose for that night's game.
THEN take a look at another, successful coach... Dennehy, Parker... and see how often THEY coach during a game, and how often their assistants talk to players after shifts and during the game.
I guess writing this just makes me look bad. (cause the Media would never do any of this, right Larry? Right Daily Campus, and former daily campus "writers"/"editors?)

That's not what you said. If you'd simply said "He doesn't use the board enough" no one would have batted an eyelash. What you said was, he's never touched one in his career. Which I called out as absurd. And as far as your not very well veiled shot at my media days in Maine, lest you forget when I lived in Orono the team was winning. And Mark Dennehy was a bum with assistant coaches attacking players from the bench. Things change. Get over it. Might help to get the name of the paper right, too, so you at least appear to know what you're talking about.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Who cares whether he uses the whiteboard or not, I think it was meant a slight exaggeration to make a point and that is Timmay isn't a very good coach. Look at the team D its so awful. Individual Dman get burned so much I'm shocked they are in the intensive care burn unit(look exaggeration taken to the extreme). All you have to do is watch. This team isn't full of talent like BU is but doing the same things over and over for years with the same results is ludicrous. I;ll tell you another thing, a drunk Scott Darling would be starting for this team

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Aw come on man. Now thats just over the edge.:D Would Billet the Skillet start for this team ?:)
Another lesson in exaggeration for the kids on here:D. Sully played well until he dropped that one that gave BU the game. The guy doesn't do very well with his mitt and once again we come back to not having a Goaltender coach that isn't on Skype

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I guess I need to downgrade my expectations from a 5th or 6th place finish to 7th or 8th or.............. Some pretty lofty expectations for the once mighty Black Bears.

Try 9th or 10th! No doubt in my mind that Maine will be fighting UMass for the #1 draft pick.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

6-7-2 and get READY as they have not even hit there ANNUAL SWOON from the Florida Classic...

What's the over/under on all of the players making it to the "Florida Classic"? I officially HATE this tourney now.......it was good for Maine at one time, but now it's a waste of 2 games, does nothing for the team or program, and ALWAYS a pain in the arse travel wise. Have any recruits chosen Maine because they play a tourney in Florida???

And for title of worst coach in HE.

Amazing what a difference a new head man has done for programs like Lowell, NU, and PC.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

We would all like to feel differently, but face the facts, this team is mediocre-to-weak from the head coach on down.

Neither Sully nor Marty are as bad as Wilson was, but they are both in the same ballpark... Neither one of are ever gonna be shut-down goalies, even if Grant changes his mind and decides to live with them 24/7.

Offensively, Maine has a terrific first line, and not a thing behind it.

I like O'Connor's potential, but aside from him the D is just plain scary most of the time.

I predicted a .500 season, but I'm backing off from that now. This program is going full-speed in reverse, and this season is not salvageable, bet ya anything on that one... All we can hope for is a new coaching approach and possibly attracting some real talent again as a result. (Gotta say, CBSCS really sold the Alfond, just as though they had money on Maine becoming relevant again. Kudos to them; Maine needs all the help it can get.)

Well now that they have 17 days before the next game, what a time to Fire Whitehead and put in Corkum as a Interimn for the remainder of the season,I know....I know it won't happen....not even a chance...but boy would it get the ATTENTION that there is a PROBLEM...? You'd be surprise it what a CHANGE would make....but again,it won't happen....S#&$. Oh well NEXT.

Beattie was one of the few Black Bears flying around against BU. He was good.

Put him on a line with Anthoine and Higgins and Maine would have a 2nd line that could play. (Probably too much to ask from Timmay)

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I remember when I would be ****ed after any Maine loss because I always thought they _could_ have won. Now I expect a loss, especially to BU, BC, and UNH. I really think I may give up on my season tickets unless they get rid of Timmay after this season. Someone I know ran into a former blackbear hockey player that lives in the area and he didn't seem to think Timmay would be around much longer.

It stings more that opposing teams know they can come to Orono and pick up an easy W.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

The part of the entire thing that got me was Whitehead's lack of response when Flynn got kicked out on that BS call. Once he left, I knew it was all over for Maine. The BU guy lost an edge going into the boards and Flynn (probably the cleanest player in Hockey East) gets a 5 minute major and game DQ. If I'm Whitehead, I'm getting tossed out right along with my captain. Stick up for your guys TIM and maybe, just maybe they will go to battle for you. Tim has a little conversation with the ref with that stupid little smirk on his face and that is it- get it together buddy.

Agree with most everyone on here too about the defense, just nothing back there. Nobody can move the puck , no real skill- just nothing. If you guys think this year is bad just wait for next year without Abbott and Flynn- and with no real talent in the freshmen/sophomore class- I see it getting a lot worse.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Kinda like the activity and responses......shows that we still care. We have talent, it just needs to be encouraged and developed.
