Wouldn't Jim Montgomery jump to be the head coach in Orono?

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

They actually showed him use it twice.

We really struggled with the BU forecheck, lots of turnovers down low. Really hurt loosing Flynn that early, instead of getting a full 5 min pp.

And no Spencer had no points, he did have 7 shots and played almost 24 minutes, which is crazy for a forward. The announcer who is also a Toronto Maple Leaf scout said even thou he had no points he had a great game :D

Can't believe we had 2 embellishment penalties called tn.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

It took you 3 years to show a single instance of a whiteboard
You win alright

How many times did Satan jackie use his whiteboard in that time??? Oh and did Jackie coach tonight???

You've got to be kidding!!!

I sat in the section right behind the bench for a number of years. Whitehead uses the whiteboard about once a game.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

The team Defense is so freakin awful, its pathetic and hearing Timmay say its been a key in their 4 game win streak, what a F'in joke. How many goals was no 27 on the ice for tonight? Not sure what happened to him but he was regressed from his freshman year. You'd think a D1 goalie aka Sully could actually catch a puck with his glove. This team is a cellar dweller for sure

How do you know his TOI total? And the embellishment called on the guy who was boarded was ridiculous...

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Another third period collapse for TIMMAY'steam. You can say conditioning, or lack of adjustments made, but there's definitely a reason this keeps happening over and over again. And fixing that would go a long way toward making this team better.

Oh, and I know a quick and easy fix. :D

They showed during the game, he had 19 minutes with 14 mins to go in the third. The last call was redick man. Was horrible that the huge boarding hit by Cisse, the ref standing 2 ft from it, didn't even make the call.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

So lessee, Nu just took two points from Lowell, who just knocked off BC last night, and swept Maine at home earlier in the season. How many points you expect Maine to take from them on their home ice?

maybe whathead can 'accidentally' get eaten by an alligator while in Florida. probably not quick or easy, but effective

Rest my case. He's done enough to make himself look bad, there's no need for off the wall claims like he's never touched a whiteboard in his coaching career.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

My two cents.

A coach has to do three things well:

Recruit
Get the players in great physical and mental condition.
Get the players to play hard.

Tim?

Recruiting? I would say we have three players, Abbott, Flynn and Mangene, that could play for BU or BC. Perhaps a few of the freshman? I haven't seen enough of them. Perhaps some of you think Diamond could? I'm not sure, but the bottom line is that we are at a sizable talent deficit.

Conditioning: I watch most of the games on tv or the internet; to me, we always look worn down by the third period. In addition, I think we are mentally soft. For instance, if we get down in the third period, we usually do not fight like mad; we usually cave and hang our goalie out to dry - like tonight. I cannot comment on the practices, as I have not attended any of them.

Playing hard: Though we have moments, we generally do not have, as the phrase goes, a lot of jam to our game. We are not nasty or a particularly difficult team to play against. We take a fair number of penalties, but I don't think anyone dreads playing us.

In the end, where does that leave us?

Right where we are. A middling team and, worse, a middling program.

That is why games like tonight's contest are brutal but perhaps necessary. We always want the team to win, but maybe enough bad losses will jolt the A/D, some big donors, and enough fans and alumni to push for a change.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

..You forgot to say "typical", at least in regards to the Whitehead era.

This team is not awful, but they're a couple of bricks short of a load. They need to winnow out the dead wood, and that includes Tim. Tonight's game was a perfect example of how he has turned Maine into a perennial also-ran.

Maine did not play with their strongest team on the ice. Played with the swedes, Rutt, Cerrantani and Swavely. Timmay what are you thinking. This is the slowest lineup you could have put on the ice and Maine not only lost but got embarrassed in the 3rd period because there lack of speed and skill level.

He's trying to make it as easy as possible for Steve Abbott........???

Great game Black Bears. I sure am glad I no longer pick up CBS college sports channel. What an embarrassment that must have been. I thought for sure Jackie would drop one on purpose just to help insure Whatheads survival. Even Jackie doesnt care 'bout Timmay no more.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

I'm still POed after going to that game last night. One thing that makes it even worse is they put a freaking net up on the south end of the arena, all the F'in seats are below the glass yet they put up a net, one more dagger thru my heart.

Couple things I saw that I liked last night, Jake Ruut sticking up for Sully, he dumped a guy after BU ran Sully. Higgins is sneaky quick. Anthoine is finding his shot.

I guess I need to downgrade my expectations from a 5th or 6th place finish to 7th or 8th or.............. Some pretty lofty expectations for the once mighty Black Bears.

NU can beat Michigan and Notre Dame on the Road, Merrimack was #1, Lowell was 5th in PWR, PC can beat the #1 team in the nation twice, Maine can't even compete with the 11th ranked team on their home ice.

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

6-7-2 and get READY as they have not even hit there ANNUAL SWOON from the Florida Classic...can go over it time and time again...but this Movie is another example of the same old/same old: "CHANGE behind the BENCH"

7th or 8th? Sorry -- UNH has those 2 possibilities covered pretty well right now. And you're still 2 points (granted, a scant 2) above us at the moment. All of which makes the matchup at Fenway even more compelling -- 2 teams struggling to find their way to some modicum of consistency that can lead to success. It's still a few weeks away, but I can't wait to pass through that Fenway gate.

In years past, one would have thought that a UNH-Maine match in the last game of the regular season would be to determine a far more honorable consequence than who ends up playing the #1 team in the 1/4s. This year's game may feature a spoiler, the way things are going. That said, I feel better about Maine's chance this year than I do about UNH's (as I posted on our thread, we would have to go 12-1-2 to equal the record of Merrimack, of whom I needn't have to tell you was last year's #4 seed.)
