I hope UAH makes Maine work their collective azzes off to get a win or two. Their friggin heads probably cant fit through the locker door right about now and what they probably need a good dose of humble reality.

Well played sir, well played.

IMO, Bob was never a player with outstanding talent; but he had an outstanding career by playing relentlessly and imposing his will. This sort of will is what Maine needs now, and will need even more next year, when most of the scoring has graduated.

I'm not privy to anything that's happening behind the scenes, but clearly Maine hockey has improved considerably since Corkum arrived. It's not so hard to connect the dots, and I'd give him a 3-year deal yesterday, if I were Abbott.

Amen.....I'm finding myself agreeing more and more with you Bob.;)

Just enjoy the unexpected ride folks! They won......that's all that matters at this point. They played a bad team.......but that's a program that is literally fighting for their existence. After the last 4 games......I don't think that anyone could have coached a "letdown" out of them. There will be plenty of time in the off-season to b*tch and moan about the Whitehead situation.

I just may have to use this in my signature!

And FWIW here is a quote from the BDN today, and not saying it did not come after a Corkum tirade, "Higgins said after the second period, Whitehead told the team there were players that hadn’t registered a hit through the first two periods."

“We hadn’t been gritty enough,” said Higgins.

Never the less a character win for the team. Let's hope they play with grit for 3 periods tonight. They now have a very mentally wounded opponent and they need to score early to keep them down.

When they play #4 Rutt...play him as a Defenseman...NOT at Forward, the kid is a d-man thru and thru...and can be a very good one...don't waste him,use him the right way. It's all about making the Team good not these fool hearted experiments;d-man to forwards and forwards to d-man.

I think he played Rutt as he is generally physical and the best available player. Hopefully he'll put the 2nd line back together and place a forward with the 1st line thats not named Mangene. leave him with Higgins and Anthoine. Shemansky or Beattie would be my choices.
I think BobF may have had a point last night when he said Tim might be delegating authority(finally). Playing good cop bad cop and Corkum is a the bad cop. Again, Timmay has fooled me before. 2nd period last night was unwatchable, I was so freakin POed, the kid wouldn't talk he was so upset(not sure where he learned that:) ). Hopefully they come flying tonight.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Last night was just one of those games. Maine outplayed them soundly in the first, with no puck luck, and again in the 3rd, with some. The second period was an embarrasement. Over the course of a season you get games like that where the opposing goalie plays very well and you wind up losing to an inferior team. It's actually a very good sign that we were still able to win a game like this.

Looks like Bathsalt Papa has a new supporter in his SAVE Timmay cause. I guess at least there is two of you! Oh well, I for one continue to believe Whitehead has nothing to do with the run the team is on. I'm just hoping the AD gets some balls and fires his *** at the end of the season! Corky's the man for the job!!!

Currently stand in fourth, and will probably drop back to fifth after tonight. Who predicted that?

I've spoken with Stu before and I have to say I'm always impressed by what he says. He's a future Maine captain.

As for Tim and Bob: Success doesn't come in a vacuum. Do you think Shawn would have been as successful as he was without Red and Grant? You need quality assistants. It may be that after losing Guy and Grant it took Tim some time to find the right balance. I can say that there has been a wave of letters to the AD office to end Tim's contract but Abbott has never responded to any of it. Even when someone who had season tickets for 28 years and is a professor at the school wrote him there was no reply. He's playing this decision very close to his vest. Since Tim is still the hockey coach that is to be expected. The question is whether Abbott will pull the trigger if the hockey team suffers another swoon or if he has a new golf partner. Hopefully Maine doesn't suffer another swoon and goes into the NCAA playoffs and does some damage. If you look back, the low point of Tim's years was 2008 and 2009 and the program has rebounded. He has shepherded the program through a very difficult time. We'll see if Abbott thinks he is the man to lead Maine into the future.

(And yes, that last line is just sitting on a tee...have at it)

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

. By the way maybe it says something that if Tim is actually allowing Corkum to have more say! But that would make no difference to all of you!

not all of us. I have always said that he needed to let others do what they were good at.
Years ago he told Corky not to yell, not to talk after a player's shift on the ice, as "that is not how we coach here at Maine"

if he is allowing Corky to "coach", I am all for it and I think it is a great thing that he is finally doing.
good cop bad cop worked for Shawn and Grant

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I'm kind of glad last night happened. It proved to me (and hopefully the rest if the team) that they can pull it together and bounce back with only one period to play. Then after regulation they didn't just sit back and say "phew! at least we got a point out of this", they came out in OT fighting and got the full two points. Hopefully later in the season when they are losing they can say "we've been here before boys! we can to this!"

I thought Shemansky had a very good game and I guess I wasn’t alone, as he was out on the 6 on 5 at the end of regulation.

I thought John Parker was the only guy to play 60 minutes other than Sully. The Senior captains watched the whole 2nd period.
The team should be happy they won but disgusted with the way they played. I hope Corkum is running the film session today

I think its very true about the down years being 08 and 09. Maine was an NCAA tourney team in 2010, no two ways about it. Last year's season really went downhill when Dimmen and O'Neil got hurt at the same time. That is something I'm not really sure how you overcome. I've liked this year's team from day one. They play really hard and have a nice balance about them. I could see next year's team being even better too. This is the best freshmen class we have had in quite a long time and I think they are guys who will stick around too.

A couple months ago I would have bet the house on Whitehead being gone after this season but now I'm not so sure it will happen or that it should happen. There are some posters who have legitimate reasons not to like him but a lot of the criticism he gets is ridiculous. The whole 'no excuses' stuff is a complete load of rubbish. It really concerns me that there are all of these anonymous scouts/coaches/former players who think he is a horrible coach yet no one ever comes out on the record against him.

What do you mean "on the record?"
Is telling a player and his parents to their face "on the record"
There is at least on former player who posts here... Anonymously
Is that on the record? This player also had a sit down with kennedy
That was on one record

Watch the tape and see who stood still and who completely refused to back check on the two goals agains (their line) in the second

Better freshmen than Gus, Flynn, Abbott, Hags, Oneil, Darling?? I think its a landslide, and I hate to say it but I think next year is going to be a very very tuff year. Loosing the top 2 scorer, guys who setup Diamond a lot, I don't see who can step in a replace them. And for Diamond to keep putting the points, he needs setup men. 2 solid D man as well.

I must say early in the season I woulda said no chance, but getting some secondary scoring lately may save them next year.

1 goal was off the draw, not sure how you back check on a quick shot off the draw.

By on the record I mean a name and a quote. I feel like i've read way too many times how some anonymous expert thinks that timmy is completely incompetent yet we never see someone come out directly and say it.

Timmy was late calling the time out which was waved off by the officials. He should have been screaming timeout from the bench after the weak icing call...........the boys were gassed.......
