UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

Point taken.

Yet, I turned down full rides at Long Beach State and Arizona State to pay much of my way at UMO. Perhaps that was foolish, but I've never regretted it; I love the State of Maine and wanted to live there again. I'm hopeful that Coach H is similarly sentimental. (Not holding my breath on that one, but maybe the U will sweeten the pot a bit...)

The new UMass coach is at $625,000 base. Harasymiak is $150,000. James Madison will be hiring at probably $350,000. Heck at $150,000 Harasymiak would have been the 671st highest paid ASSISTANT in the FBS, tied with the tight ends coach at Eastern Michigan!

Remember in the movie Moneyball when Billy Beane says there are rich teams, poor teams and fifty feet of crap, then the Oakland A's? We're poorer than the Oakland A's.

You cant compare the new UMass coach to an fcs coach, considering Addazio at BC is over 2 million UMass is also under the 50 feet of crap for the fbs level

Mike Houston is leaving JMU after signing a 10 year extension in 2017. I wonder what happened with their relationship? (money) He will be getting $1.3 million at East Carolina.

OK, you got me there.

I didn't realize the level of salary-disparity that exists at the FCS level. I was thinking that another job in FCS would be more or less a lateral move for Harasymiak, and that he should hold out for a mid-level FBS gig, at worst... Now, not so much.

In light of your numbers, who could blame him for leaving? 150K sounds pretty good for a 32 YO, but I never blame a guy for making hay in a profession that's tenuous, at best. He just won the (arguably) toughest FCS conference title in the nation, and, unless Maine suffers a setback next year, he's going to be a hot commodity, and the money will likely be too good to turn down.

In terms of Coach H, I could possibly see him extending at Maine on a two or three year deal, just to convince any doubters that this brief stretch of success wasn't a fluke. They did underachieve relative to expectations last year.

They did, to some extent. Lost a few razor-thin games. That buzzer-beating 53-yard Hail Mary in the finale v. Stony Brook still frustrates.

I'd suppose that Harasymiak's strong suit vis-a-vis potential suitors would have to be his ability to recruit real talent to Orono. NFL talent. Cosgrove did that too, but not nearly as often. (Again, as you imply, a small sample-size, when comparing the two Maine coaches.)

I always root for CAA teams OOC (it works for Maine when they win), but his hissy-fit on the FCS selection show soured me on Houston. If he felt "disrespected", he should have figured-out how to defeat a Colgate team that hadn't beaten anyone all year long... Instead, JMU played like a bunch of little girls.

With all due respect, screw him. :D

Houston's comments after signing the 10 yr. deal with JMU last year and his actions this week demonstrate his character and integrity in my mind. He reaffirmed it with his comments after this year's selection show as you well point out.

A win tomorrow night for football or Maine hockey gets to the garden? Which would you rather have? I'll take a football win tomorrow

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

Football getting a win tomorrow means more. If you said hockey goes to Buffalo it would be tougher to decide. I am really looking forward to the football game... and can watch in HD on the 60 inch. Wahooo

I'd take the FF, but there's no way in the world that'll happen... So sign me up for football.

Been sussing-out Weber as best as I can, and they appear to be cut from the same cloth as is Maine. The two teams are very similar in terms of scoring offense and YPG allowed. We might be looking at a defensive slug-fest, and I hope that's the case; I like Maine's chances via that scenario.

I think the key's to the game maybe, how they protect Ferguson, short passing game to Belcher, churning up yardage with the running game.....and lastly staying away from too many penalty's. Go Maine FB..!

Football deserves it more. They are doing everything right. Hockey making it to Boston would be despite the numerous structural issues within the program.

Good luck guys! As someone mentioned, this one I can actually watch on my big screen! :)

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

Kick some ***** tonight, guys. Love the fact that as our door temporarily closed this year (after multiple years and chances - but then, we are UNH), you guys walked right in. Will be hustling back from dinner tonight to catch it!

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!

JMU student paper lists Harasymiak as a candidate: https://www.breezejmu.org/sports/br...cle_ccb09d68-f6ff-11e8-870b-8b400a1c2ce2.html

Joe Harasymiak (Maine head coach)

He may still be playing football into the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs, but Maine head coach Joe Harasymiak has to be a hot name for JMU to consider as its next head coach. At 32 years old, Harasymiak is an up-and-coming name in the world of FCS football and his team won the CAA in just his third year at the helm.

Joining the Black Bears in 2011 and slowly working his way through the ranks, Harasymiak, much like Cignetti, may have maxed out what he’s capable of accomplishing in a Maine school with limited exposure and funding. Should he continue his run in the FCS playoffs, Harasymiak will continue to grow as a candidate for a bigger job and could very well find himself coaching at JMU.

Re: UMaine '18-'19: Back to the Nationals!
