UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Oh, and something I noted in looking at the stats:

We were outshot 1428-802, but the margins really don't change from period-to-period. The goal margins do, though: -18 in the opening period, -8 in the 2nd, -30 in the third. Ouch.

From the file "Why didn't I notice this when it happened?":

Max McHugh's 12 goals was the most by a freshman in UAH's modern Division I era. Beat Jared Ross' 2001-02 total by one. Anyone breaking a Jared Ross offensive record of any kind is a good sign.

I hadn't thought about that, either. That's really cool!

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Finally edited and posted GetOutDaKitchen's most recent overview of our incoming recruits. As always, thanks for this great info!
http://uahhockey.com/blog/2015/03/22/whos-coming-in-a-look-at-next-years-future-chargers/

And literally two minutes after I posted it, Hans Gorowsky announced he has committed to UAH:
https://twitter.com/Hans_Gorowsky/status/579719567741583360

Gorowsky is the third Fairbanks Ice Dog to commit, joining John Teets and Adam Wilcox. He had originally committed to Lake Superior State -- in fact, he had an NLI with the Lakers and was announced:
http://www.lssulakers.com/sports/m-hockey/2013-14/releases/Spring-14-Commits

Gorowsky was 21-31-54 in 58 games with Fairbanks this season.

Appreciate the shout out Statman. Hope people find my write-up interesting.

But it's VERY interesting seeing the pickup of Dunn and now Gorowsky. Noticed Gorowsky and his numbers while following and Teets and Wilcox in Fairbanks. Not sure why his NLI to Lake State fell through. He's a solid pickup nonetheless. Dunn is smaller and hasn't lit the lamp a ton in the AJ with only 8 goals this year. He's Brooks' captain so he's likely got good character. Probably a guy who will come in and play a bottom 6 role early on as an agitator/contributor on the PK.

With these two additions to the class, you've got to wonder how all of this is going to shake out. Right now we're looking at 16 forwards and 9 defensemen. Could be some cuts like there were last year...Geof and Statman, let me know how y'all think this will play out. We've got to be done, right? Here's my take:

Forwards
1. McHugh So.
2. Brears Sr.
3. Prince Sr.
4. Salerno Fr.
5. Houcher Fr.
6. Saulnier So.
7. Gorowsky Fr.
8. Beaulieu Fr.
9. Salhany Jr.
10. Kestner So.
11. Fletcher Jr.
12. Marooney Jr.
13. Dunn Fr.
14. Soquila Jr.
15. Poulsen Fr.
16. Wilcox Fr.

Defensemen
1. Misuraca Sr.
2. Carlson Jr.
3. Knight Fr.
4. Parker So.
5. Gosselin Fr.
6. Champagne So.
7. Buri So.
8. Teets Fr.
9. White Sr.

I'll probably have more on who is 15 and who is 16 after he banquet.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

Good deal. Please share.

We know Houcher, Teets, Wilcox, Gosselin, and Gorowsky will be in this upcoming class. All 94s who will have exhausted junior eligibility. Salerno also is likely in b/c he would have been in this past year absent some Clearinghouse issues. Beaulieu (96), Dunn (95), and Cam Knight (95) all could go back another year. Given Beaulieu and Knight's seasons in Wichita, I doubt we hold them back for 2016. We'll see though. Should be interesting.

No need for cuts. NMU used 30 players this year. Had they not had so many available, there would have been games where only 15 or 16 skaters dressed.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I didn't read the cuts part: I'm pretty sure that won't happen. I have been hearing the last day or two that LSSU was doing them, though.

Being a 96, Beaulieu could benefit from a year in the USHL like McHugh did. Being that Knight turned 20 this January, I'd say it's likely that he will be Hunstville bound.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I look at the Tech and Mankato fans excitedly putting together trip to the NCAAs. I always get sad when I see these things happen to others and not me. You know what? We didn't really get together as a big group and travel, either, for our two trips within the last decade. Why do you think that is? Our trip is coming within 2-4 years, and we should get ready.

Heck yeah. Blue Crew needs to be ready, too. They seem to be (and you can correct me) more organized than five years ago. Did Blue Crew exist five years ago?

They didn't. Their first year was 2010-11; I helped interview for 11-12 along with Mike Warde to give hockey a voice. That didn't happen. It's easier to get kids excited in a small building about a winning program.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

How was the banquet? Anyone (Geof) hear about the composition of the roster for next season? Is Beaulieu going to be coming in next year or 2016-2017?

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I didn't make it to the banquet for a lot of reasons, none of them having anything to do with the program. I'm supposed to have lunch with Matty Thomas next week, but I don't know that I'll be able to share too much. The upcoming NLI window will help.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I'll be posting some pictures of the Banquet this weekend. Awards and a passing of the flames were presented. The outgoing Captain and Assistant introduced next year's C and 2 A's... Pretty neat thing to do... hope it continues in the future.

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

So who are they, Doug? If I had to guess:

C Misuraca
A Carlson
A Fletcher (or Marooney)

If it's Frank, he'd be the first one-year captain since Shaun Arvai in 2006-07 and one of just three in the last 15 years (Jared Ross in 2004-05, Mike Funk in 2002-03). There was a time when all you had to do was be a junior playing defense who never scored ... ;)

Re: UAH Hockey 2014-15: The 30th Varsity Season

I was sorta close:
C Fletcher
A Misuraca
A Brears

Carmine got MVP, Frank DPoY, Max FoY, and Craig got the Charger Award. Those are all solid picks.
