UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Son of a b****. Well, this gives me all the more reason to watch them in Nashville in December. So sorry to hear about this, UAH fans. A sad day for college hockey. Go ******* yourself, Portera.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

:( this is awful to hear. What a shi**y move by the interim prez a few days before handing the reigns over to someone who cares.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Very sad day - a lot of work by a lot of people to save something useful, ruined by one person.:mad::mad:
...do you mean Tom Anastos, Barry Alvarez, Terry Pegula or Malcolm Portera? ;)

I don't see a way this doesn't happen after they were denied acceptance in the CCHA. Even with all the realignment, without a home, this probably still happens.

Tough day for college hockey. :( I hate to see any program have to end.

Alvarez and Pegula didn't help, but didn't hurt either (at least, not that I know). They didn't have a conference before or after all this mess. Anastos could have done more to get them in CCHA a couple years ago, but that's old news now

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Well, there you go, college hockey. UAH is gone.

I hope you're all happy.

Condolences are nice now...this time next year UAH hockey will be no more remembered than Northern Arizona hockey is...

But at least Lennie and Les got their payoffs!

There are indications that a conference spot was there for the asking if the UAH admin had been on board and been willing to pursue it. They weren't. There are also indications that all of the financial concerns raised by portera were addressed, so one has to wonder what his true motivation was.

So, does anyone know how this impacts the players in terms what they can do to contact other schools? Do the same recruiting/contact windows in place for players not yet in school still apply?

Players are free to transfer without penalty, and all other institutions will certainly be granted permission to contact UAH hockey players.

I'm reminded of the Findlay program and being their for their emotional sendoff at the CHA Tournament after the Oilers were eliminated by Bemidji State. Too bad the Chargers won't get even that.

I'll be surprised if Earl Junior even gives them a locker room in February.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Sorry to hear about this, guys. Best wishes to the fans, staff, and players.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

I realize you're upset, but no one here wanted this result.

Powers &8^]

I would agree that most here didn't want this, but there are some - and they know who they are - who talked out both sides of their mouths on the issue.

But for all those who truely supported the team and took the time to spread the word and get support out for efforts like the petition, it was/is appreciated. Special thanks to the schools who stepped up to schedule games with UAH as an independent, especially those who were willing to make the trip to Huntsville.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

At least now I don't have to hear fans of other teams complain about that super-hard trip to Huntsville, Alabama that the Chargers make each and every week of the season and, until the last few years, maintained a modicum of success on the ice in the process.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Well this is really sad news. Sorry to hear about this Huntsville fans. :(

I wish the Gophers would have found time to play a series down there. Only 3 hours down I-65 from me. I would have been there in a heartbeat.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Sad news. Sorry to hear we will be losing another program, and I wish all of the players coaches and especially the fans the best moving forward. Looking forward to seeing UAH in person for the first time here in November.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

I wish there was more the greater community of college hockey fans could have done. I signed Geoff's online petition and corresponded multiple times with Notre Dame about the situation at UAH.

While it is obvious all institutions are going to act in what THEY think (they could be wrong) are their best interests, it is in no one's best interests to lose any of the 58 D1 programs we have. I let the Notre Dame administration know of my feelings both during the time UAH was applying for admission to the CCHA, and again this summer when all of the conference crap was going on. My feeling all along was I didn't care where all the cards landed once the conference shuffling was done -- especially as far as my team was concerned -- as long as no program was lost. Like every other institution said publicly, Notre Dame claimed that was their hope too, and that they were considering that among all the other components of their decision making process. Was it lip service? At Notre Dame or anywhere else?

I know exactly how Charger fans are feeling. In 1983 we went through the exact same thing. The axe fell on us even quicker. A month of rumblings. A 2 week flurry of accusations, and parents demanding to see some numbers, wondering if funds could be raised and allocated. Then the announcement, Thursday, January 27th, 1983. Later on Gene Corrigan, the Notre Dame Athletic Director at the time, said the day they made the announcement was the single worst day of his professional career.

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

I think the blame is on the administration, but I also think its on the entire college hockey landscape. The conferences realignment essentially shifted north and moved forward without UAH. When all those teams moved and accepted and shifted and all that jazz, UAH's name rarely if ever came up seriously for a conference because of their location. It became evident no conference really wanted to take them on because of the travel, which seems like a dumb thing to me since we have Air Force in Atlantic Hockey (but then again, it happens...i think Air Force kicks a lot to revenue sharing and travel costs to get out there).

It's sad because college hockey used to rally around programs like this and save them. Now the entire landscape moved forawrd and essentially told UAH "We don't need you."

Re: UAH 2011-2012 - The Farewell Tour Kicks Off Tomorrow

Very sorry to hear this. A lot of us unofficially adopted UAH and were hoping to see them continue in some capacity.
