Drive safe. Made the trip last weekend and it was easy. Supposed to be nice weather up there all week.

Here's another nice subplot for this weekend...

If the UAA men take care of business Thursday in the GNAC play-in game, UAF and UAA will meet in the GNAC semifinal Friday afternoon in Lacey, WA.

(For those not keeping track, UAA lost in OT to Central Washington yesterday while UAF stomped Northwest Nazarene, meaning UAF got the 2 seed and a bye into the semifinals).

Thanks. So what is a good, average priced restaurant to eat at in _airbanks?

Lavelle's in downtown is where we usually wind up for dinner before games it's a little pricey but far and away the best wine list in town and it's 5 minutes from the Carlson. Silver Gulch out in Fox is also fun...about 20 minutes from the arena. Thai House in downtown is also a treat if you like Asian food...it's the original Thai restaurant that made Fairbanks, of all places, quasi-famous for good Thai food.

If you need a beer before the game, head to Hoodoo Brewing or Lavelle's Taphouse. FYI...the Carlson Center beer selection is outstanding now that they moved to a true wet section on one side of the arena.

Have fun...check out the ice park while you're in town, assuming it hasn't melted already.

Folks in North Pole consider Wasilla a decadent den of liberalism.

I booked mine a few weeks back and it was hard to find anything then, if you're looking now it is going to be slim pickings. Check Hotels.com

We and several other folks are staying at Pikes. I just went to their website and it appears there are still rooms available.

Re: uaa @ UAF March 4 & 5 … Why? …Because it really is never too early.

Man, I thought our power play stunk until I looked at UAA's numbers. Both these teams also give up a lot of shorties...I counted 7 SHG's against UAA and 6 for UAF. Special teams has an opportunity to be a game changer when you have two teams this bad at it playing each other.

UAF has better individual offensive talent (although goals for is about the same as it is for UAA), but UAA has better goaltending. It'll be interesting to see who Dallas starts Friday for a must-win game. My guess is it'll be Davis Jones; Jenks has better numbers but Jones put forth a Herculean effort at last weekend Tech and has a little bit more experience. Also wondering if Tyler Morley finally returns, and if so how effective can he be.

One other interesting stat...UAF has played in 8 overtime games this season and only won once (1-3-4 in OT). We've also had three games decided with less than a minute in regulation (loss to Arizona State, win against Bowling Green, Friday loss last weekend at Tech). Since Friday is a must-win for UAF (if we tie or lose Friday, no playoffs), if that game goes to OT I could see some weird stuff happening, like pulling the goalie weird as mmf alluded to earlier. Especially since we could still win the Cup Saturday with a Friday loss (although it means no playoffs).

Also, if I was a UAA fan I'd be feeling good about this weekend. The home team hasn't won a game in this series in two years (March 2014), and UAF has been abysmal at the Calrson Center this season.
