Agree with everything here except I believe we could tie Friday and win Saturday and go to the playoffs. I think Friday is more of a "must not lose game" instead of a must win game. Granted, that wouldn't build much momentum for Saturday. Hopefully T. Morely is back. I know he was skating/practicing the last couple of weeks. Haven't heard anything about Mullally or Vieth.

You're right, I didn't think that part through. So a Friday tie keeps the Cup home and makes Saturday a de-facto WCHA play-in game for the postseason.

The moral of the story is UAA needs two points to play on past this weekend, and UAF needs three points to keep going.

While our shootout record is bad a tie on Friday does not guarantee the Cup.

Silver Gulch out in Fox is also fun...about 20 minutes from the arena. Thai House in downtown is also a treat if you like Asian food...it's the original Thai restaurant that made Fairbanks, of all places, quasi-famous for good Thai food.

If you need a beer before the game, head to Hoodoo Brewing or Lavelle's Taphouse. FYI...the Carlson Center beer selection is outstanding now that they moved to a true wet section on one side of the arena.

Have fun...check out the ice park while you're in town, assuming it hasn't melted already.

All of the hotel rooms are booked pretty solid due to Festival of Native Arts, which is also this weekend. There are also several people showing up early for the Arctic Science Summit Week that UAF is hosting, because of UAF's prominent position in Arctic research (just in case Ms. Wilson reads these boards...)

My favorite spots in town - Geraldo's Italian (good pizza too), Big Daddy's BBQ is great for pregame, just up the street past the 1st/2nd avenue fork. Lavelle's Bistro, but pricey. Lavelle's taphouse is great for a spot for a beer though. Taco Azteca is awesome for a quick, inexpensive, and great mexican which is also not far from the rink.

You mentioned that place the last time I was down there and I felt really lucky I didn't get a side of dysentery with my pulled pork. I realize BBQ joints aren't the epitome of cleanliness, but c'mon...

I ate at Big Daddy's tonight. Wing Wednesday special, and for the best wings that I've had anywhere in state despite not being separated, they're worth full price. Half price is just a bonus. So for those that share similar tastes...

As for the Cookie Jar mentions, they're probably the best breakfast spot in town, with good wraps/sandwiches/burgers for lunch. I wouldn't get another dinner dish here though. Plenty of better places for the money. Not bad, but not worth it either.


Been hearing a lot more radio and TV advertisements of this week's series than normal. Hope that draws a great crowd. Hockey Week in Fairbanks is concluding with this weekend's events as well, finishing off with the Skate the Lake at the Tanana Lakes rec area on Sunday if you're sticking around. Awesome outdoor rink with a unique 2.5 mile ice trail to skate. NBCSN will be shooting footage as well for their Sunday NHL broadcast.

Wouldn't blame you guys though for tucking in the tails and going home Sunday morning though. It would be the respectable thing to do after being whipped all night Friday and Saturday.

Best BBQ is Dreamland in Huntsville! For a great Fairbanks breakfast, Sam's Sourdough on University is outstanding! The Deli at Fred Meyer has some really good stuff for lunch. HooDoo Brewing for a pint is always a terrific stop and if you have time to venture up to the Silver Gulch, it's definitely worth it and a pretty nice ride as well.

Interesting beer note: at "The Banks" in Fairbanks, a pint of Alaskan Amber will run $5.50 and a 22 oz will set you back $7.75. At Breaker's Roadhouse in Marquette, MI, it's $4.25 for a pint and $5.75 for 22 oz. Odd that Alaskan beer is cheaper in Michigan than it is in Alaska~

I'm just glad I no longer have to wrap that 6 pack in the dirty clothes in the suitcase and hope the TSA and baggage handlers don'e steal or break them! Best wishes to both teams on rivalry weekend. Really wish I could be in all five rinks to see how the various rivalries play out.
