UND's Blood is more or less a goon and he got away with alot this weekend at home, what adds to the insult is he scored a game winner...he was a punk up at Maine last fall and what do you expect...I have always like the UND Teams, but that guy is one that I care less one way or another...and care less is what I mean...what goes around always comes around.

At 6'4" Blood is going to play a physical game and guys are going to be hit but he has no control over what the refs are going to call. It seems that Maine fans have forgotten the one-sided calls last year in Orono... what a difference a year makes. Just a goon huh? Just a goon that led the nation with a +32 rating last year...

NICK Pryor had a hip issue in Frosh year, a concussion and associated issues in Soph year, for a total of 11 games. Not trying to be harsh, but has not lived up to hype even when healthy.....He has a great pedigree, was supposed to go to Wisconsin...so he must be "good"...and Timmay will keep trying to show how good a recruiter Weasel Kereluke is......off ice, he seems to be a great kid, but living on your laurels is not the way to win games...and Mark Pryor was a pitcher for the CUBS,,,
Whoops, that's what happens when seasons overlap.

I guess my wording of "goon" was a bit over the top...but the truth is Blood got away with quite a bit this weekend and last year at Maine...he's a solid player for the UND team, just over the edge at time's...as for one-sided calls I guess you maybe right as both Conferences refs call a different game and when in the other's rink it sometimes comes out that the away team is getting hosed or so it seems...I guess we can agree to disagree...no matter if either one of us likes it or not....good luck the rest of the season, have always liked the UND teams...one last thing kick the s#it out of Minnesota...!

So 4games in. who is the starter in goal? Marty has no wins, but bigger talent. Sully is1&1, but seems to have a tough time with vision and
Can be a trampoline. Thoughts?

No #1 at this point, both need to play

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I see more improvment in Ouellette's game from last year, more focused...but has no scoring to back his games in net...while Sullivan is streaky imo...he makes a big save then as the game goes on he lets in the soft goal,he has the scoring to back him in those games...it will take more time for both...but one thing is for sure, neither is stealing any wins as of yet...goaltending has improved some, but still is the one of many Questionmarks on this Team.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I absolutely think that Marty looks like the only goalie Maine has right now who can possibly survive a BC or a BU.He is considerably more athletic than Sully, he is physically bigger, and he has better instincts, quicks, positioning, and vision...Having said that, Wally is probably correct in saying that Sully needs his minutes, if we're gonna have a competent back-up.(I just hope that Tim is judicious in selecting his starts.)

The Warden and I just re-watched the weekend series with a high degree of objectivity, since we already knew the score, and I still think that Maine looked pretty **** good up front. They passed and skated much better than we could possibly have expected going into this season, and the D wasn't really awful but four or five times.

Probably won't happen, but Maine could get a berth this year if they play that well all season.

Remeber though, they almost always start the season off on fire with a lot of jump in their step and pep in their game, after spending an offseason away from TIMMAY.

It takes him about a month or so before he can coach that all out of them, and has them back to thinking, "Am, I making a mistake, should I pass it here instead of shoot, should I jump in or fall back, jeez, if I do the wrong thing here, make a mistake, coach is gonna bench me, oh, what do i do?"

Don't forget that Sullivan has the Black Bear record for not allowing a goal for around 207 minutes.

D has a couple of folks who make curious passing choices.....and despite Mangene's speed, I think he holds O'Neil back from being as stronger contributor on offense, although it's still early....PK needs work.....too scrambly.....And is it just me or did I see Shemansky's face on a milk carton.....just disapears at times

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

i'm not on here to debate or anything, i just wanted to give my opinion. Does anyone else think making Will O'Neill and Spencer Abbott a D-Pair would be a good idea? I mean, on a power play, that's the case. I just think that with them together, 2 of Maine's best players will be getting alot of ice time and with two guys with rockets, that should generate more shots from the points which will allow for screened and tipped goals and even more puck cycle with guys that have the experience. Just my opinion, any thoughts?

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

If you are suggesting that Abbott play D instead of forward, no way. Whitehead already has one guy who I believe should be up front playing D (Mangene).
I don't see all the games so could someone tell me what playing Mangene on defense has produced?

sounds like a great idea... this way, they will still end the season with the same win-loss record, but they will be the Anti-Oilers of the 80's
Gretzky's oilers knew that they could play run and gun with 4 forwards at all times (Coffey was a forward playing D)... and win almost every game 7-5.
With Abbott coughing the puck up and handing breakaways to the opponents on every shift, giving up 4 goals per game and scoring an extra 2, Maine will lose 6-3 instead of 2-1... he would score 80 goals and win the Hobey, hands down.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I see the goalie rotation staying in place until such time as one emerges, Marty being quicker with a great glove and Sully being a better puck handler like an extra D.

With Mangene's speed, he is able to carry the puck out of the defensive zone and make a play. Maine hasn't been able to do that for the last couple of years and have resorted to more "dump and chase". So far this year, the team is carrying the puck more and making better passes.

I think Beattie is helping with this also.

The defense seems to have more depth this year...........no real falloff after the first 2 pairings........

I also think that Marty disches the puck off better than Sully around the net...........

Sully holds/protects the goal line better from close in.............

Now we need forwards on the 2nd and 3rd line that can finish..........

Just my observations
