Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

garbage!
more often than not when refs call a quickie at the beginning of a PP, it s to even things up because one of the refs feels that a make up call is in order, or because they have already "called too many" on the other team and they feel a need to even things up.

Ohhhh thats why, so its never been Diamonds fault that is has happened 3 times in 3 games!! He didn't have to hit him from behind, he just had to rub him out or take the stick. And if thats the case, it woulda been nodak getting a penalty to even it up as we had 14 minutes and they had 10.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I expected to see UND run Maine out of The Ralph tonight, and I was dead-wrong on that one:Maine looked like much the better team for about 85% of the game. They were just two posts and a crossbar away from sealing the deal by the midway in the 2nd.

Marty was pretty good.He was late in sealing off the post on that 1st goal, which he appeared to kick in all by himself, but he made a great first save in that sequence, too.

Timmy says he's going to sit Diamond tomorrow, and I agree with that decision.I might even bench him for another game or two, just for good measure. He plays a dumb game half the time, and his up-side is not so "up" as to justify his penalties.I DO think that the refs are looking for him to mess up, but he has to recognize that fact, too, and play smarter.(Life isn't fair, right?)

I loved the effort tonight. Not very often do I see UND out-played in their own barn...But, the result was all too familiar. At least the cupboard will not be bare when the next coach is hired after this around-.500 season.(Please.)

Marty was a tad late but Parks never should been able reach the net front while Beattie was standing in the paint watching it develop.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

The problem with the Diamond hit was Blood got thrown head first into the boards, it did not look good and Diamond put himself and the team in an awful position. That's something a ref is going to call 10 out of 10 times and Maine was in a great position at that moment in the game. Just leave the ******* guy alone. I do think the first penalty in on him in the third was extremely soft. It was more of a dive from Blood than anything else.

Overall, I was pretty happy with the game. It sucks not getting the result but I feel like at this point of the season and where the program is at in general we need good performances. I thought Mangene played pretty well and Pryor for the first time actually looked like he belonged out there. I am really encouraged with Oulette's play and all the freshmen look decent. Was Swaveley a healthy scratch or is he injured? Hopefully one or two of those shots that smashed against iron last night go in tonight.
Swaverly was a healthy scratch...who's in for #39 tonight..? Swaverly/Amstoy or maybe Antonelli..?

That has been the theme of Whitehead coached Maine teams.

Diamond is a self-centered hothead. Yo, Joey.........you're just not THAT good! Smarten the F up!:mad::mad:

At first I thought Timmy's decision to put Mangene on the blue line was a mistake, he looked like a fish out of water in the Merrimack game. He has since played better in each passing game on D including last night's performance. He certainly would be under consideration for most improve player thus far this season. A sound coaching decision I would say.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Just finished watching goal replays for both teams and a few big NoDak hits on the Soiux's team page. NoDaks 1st goal was weak and their 3rd, ME had three guys chasing the puck through the high slot. It looked like synchronized lallygagging.

Last night I posted that I thought Maine deserved to win; probably backing-off on that. Also, I too agreed that Joey D. took a stupid penalty, costing ME big time. But now, after seeing the replay of the 'dirty' hit, I might be backing-off of that as well. There was a gap between Blood and the wall. Joey did drive into Blood with all he could muster. Joey actually looked like he was beating NoDak at their own game. I don't know, definitely confused. I guess he should have just skated away; 1-1 game and on the powerplay. If it were me, I would have taken the hit. But I played like a hot-head, had no real skill other than physicality and my teams never went anywhere.

The Bears have a better chance with Diamond then without. I vote Antonelli to play.

!!

NOO NO NO!!!!
he is the ONLY hockey player on the whole team...(until Timmy unleashes Brice)
if he sits or stops being a hot head, then the hardest hitter at forward is Abbott, or Andersson

then Cornell and O"Connor

and none of them really hit.... did any one even notice that UND finishes ALL of their checks, even a few seconds after a dumps the puck???? Beattie (I think) got called for that last night... but UND gets to do it over and over and over...
not complaining... just sayin' that if that is your game, it seems the refs let ya do it.... if it is not your game, then they are gonna call "late hits"

Diamond is the only fire on the whole team

Yup and Yup

Timmy D is not even D and

Joey did what the refs had allowed all game... as long as Blood was not being hit

Diamond makes games extra entertaining to watch. One of my favorite players. For once I agree with KnowItAll

well we got 1 point this weekend..that's a plus i guess

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I was at both Maine @ UND games. All I can say is Maine should have came out of this weekend with 2 wins and got lucky to come out with a tie. WCHA Officails suck call the game the same for both sides. It was funny how the penalties came out against Maine once they were up by two goals then once it was tied the only penalties called were obvious ones.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

good game, the refs screwed over Maine. I personally think they should leave the first line with Beattie, hes very similar to Diamond, and Diamond on the second line gives them more depth.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Its what I thought Maine could do, loss and a tie. Really not bad when you figure what the goaltending was like last year. Both got a chance to play in a big building with a hostile and abusive crowd:D. Their was a time when this would have been pretty disappointing, those days are gone for now

Pretty sad when a tie is viewed as something good...and as a you say it use to be a tie was considered a lost to Maine and their fans...either way this weekend didn't help the cause...they have next weekend off and then have the New Look Hungry Providence Friars for a 2 game set...they are coming off 2 wins this weekend over BU & UMass and with a New Coach (Nate Leaman)...Maine better be ready as PC won't be a Cup-Cake team...

I would say that Maine had a respectable weekend as well. Maine swept ND one year ago at the Alfond. ND could'nt do the same on their ice. I think Maine has improved goal tending as well and will finish the season much stronger than last year.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

We looked good this weekend. Not to worry, Be happy! Its tough to play in the Ralph. That arena is hard to win in and we did okay. We will continue to rise to the top. I just wish Amestoy would be given a chance, I like his hustle. Why doesn't he get a chance to play?

Diamons is a diamond. He's a very good player. I like Beattie alot too. I would probably put Diamond on 2nd line for depth like Sweeper suggests and leave Beattie up the middle on the first line but I would insert Amestoy in the line up.

Go Black Bears!

You guys looked pretty good when I watched part of last night's game.

I believe Whitehead is going to keep his job!

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Good instigators/pests know theres a time/place. Joey Diamond hasn't figured that out yet. Suspension last year didn't help, maybe Whitehead actually making a stand will. I don't know, with my expectations for this team, I'm not opposed to Tim trying something different to get this player, and his team's, attention.

not to be a complete "richard" but if you knew the game better and if you knew the history of Maine Hockey... you would agree all the time... I don't just know it all... my opinion is always THE correct ONE.
