Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I gotta admit, it was sad to see a Maine team not being able to even compete.
That was a pretty poor showing last night. Your boys look completely out of shape.
This BC team is very good, but has nowhere near the speed of some previous teams, and Maine couldn't keep up.

pretty fair assessment - your guys just skated circles around us. Kreider going in for the shortie didn't have any of our guys in the same zip code with him. That was just a good old-fashioned butt-kicking.
Oh well, see ya in Orono in January!

Biggest game of the year in Orono today! Should be a great crowd. GO BLUE! BEAT TOWSON!

Support winners on campus. I can't believe some people can still stand paying to watch this hockey team. It's ridiculous.

Screw hockey, we'll get UNH in two weeks for the CAA title.

Really discouraging to see the direction the program is headed. I agree that everything starts at the top. From recruiting to development, to utilizing the players properly. We've always been able to discover overlooked talent and develop it, but for some reason Tim is sticking with players in roles that isn't working. Confusing and sad to watch.

R.I.P. Maine Hockey and there Fans

It's a long season, and that was just one game against a very good team. This is something you say once the Black Bears are out of contention for the tournament (crazy to think its been 4 years, big change from when I was a kid!) Keep calm, and beat UNH!!

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

I went to UNH/UMass last night. The score showed a lopsided win for UNH. It seemed to me that it was more of a result of poor goal tending for UMass. I was not that impressed with UNH.

Interesting to note, the Whitt was no where near full. The student section was but there were plenty of seats through out the building. I realize the game was against UMass and they are probably not the biggest draw. At the same time, this was the most empty I have seen a game since Maine played there in a blizzard 3 or 4 years ago.

Maybe UNH can hire the same firm Maine used to contract their facility?

The program and the fans started to die 10 years ago. Now were all officially 6 feet under....GO MAINE FOOTBALL! Perfect football weather today

Thats its right there. Maine no longer knows how to compete. Especially on the road. Thats the essence of being able to win on the road. You must compete and MAINE DOES NOT.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

It comes down to one VERY simple thing - a complete and utter lack of talent. Unlike in years gone by, the players that Maine has been recruiting lately weren't even on the radar screen of top schools like BU, BC, Michigan, NoDak, DU, MN, etc. Your current first line would have been the 4th line at best on most of those 90's teams.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

A sure sign Maine is done, a pinhead isn't piling on, This means Maine is irrelevant and Timmay has finally ruined the program. Can anyone tell me why Timmay changed the goalie rotation? He handles players like crap.

Matt Lundin's godfather is asking THIS question?

my best guess is that Sullivan's stars are in closest convergence and Mars is Transiting Jupiter.. how else can it be explained?

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Nice post..!You have things in perspective. :D

Back to hockey: this abomination that is Maine hockey is actually not on Tim... It's on whatever body approved his ridiculous extension. (BOT..? Have no idea how that worked.)

Blake getting away with extending Tim a couple years back would be exactly analogous to the Sox giving Lackey 3 more years right now, if they were dumb enough to do that (ie, throwing money hand-over-fist down a rat-hole.) How that lame-duck AD got away with that is beyond me, and that sort of outrageous crap should never be allowed to happen again.

Lackey might possibly be the pitcher he once was someday, but, sadly, there is no Tommy John-type surgery available to fix Tim's chronic lack of hockey acumen. He will go down as the worst Maine hockey coach ever. (And that includes Semlar, who at least quickly exceeded expectations, and didn't inherit a d*** thing.)

a brilliant hockey mind told me in about 2003 that EVERYTHING good going on in Orono was completely Grant's doing.... just wait and see how things deteriorate... then Grant was so poorly treated he left.

and I have said it before and I will keep saying it as long as there is ANYONE out there who is not getting it...there is a reason that about 90+% of the people whose names are on plaques in the Dexter lounge as best fan and president of Friends of Maine Hockey will have NOTHING to do with Tim's BS.

NOBODY wants to work with him in Friends of Maine hockey except for a couple of true saints

I begged people to write to the President and to the AD YEARS ago and say that you were pulling your support, your donations, your season tickets, your auction purchases etc. until he was shown the door...

I knew that the longer he stayed, the harder it would be to right the ship.
I am saving a lot of money

Liedermark is one of the leading goal scorers...
I was with a 13 year old watching Klas's first D1 game... the 13 year old looked at Liedermark's stride and could only say "W T ..F"

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

BC really did outclass Maine on the ice in every way.

W.

how many times did Maine's giant mites have 3 or 4 guys fighting with Kreider OR Dumoulin for a loose puck along the boards, only to watch Kreider or Dumoulin skate away, stick handling, untouched?

Dumoulin should only do that to guys like me and my three fat brothers when it is four on 1... but not 4 D1 players...
someone take the puck
someone take the opponent
someone take away his passing lane.... NO everybody with stone hands ONLY go for the puck.

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

Recruiting is the life blood of college sports programs and it hasn't been good.

KIA hit the nail on the head in the scores thread:
"how good did people think a team of 2 guys from the USHL and a bunch of Manchester Junior Monarchs was gonna be?"

BTW, where is that moron Big Papa?

and it really does hurt, you not popping your collars at us anymore... not even worth being called hillbillies and inbred.... just poor saps to be pitied

Okay know it all. You dont need to prove to us anymore how smart you think you are. Enough of the rambling already.

Remember the many knock down drag outs on here about Matty, their were a few of us who defended Matty and the guy who always trotted out Tims many frozen fours would defend Timmay saying look at his record, its better than Jerry Yorks . I wonder if his record is still worth looking at and why aren't we hearing that any more

poor saps that again showed up in droves at Conte last night. I was right next to a large contingent of students, you guys were all over the building but this is nothing new and you deserve a heck of a lot better than they are giving you

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

So let's review...goalies are coached via Internet...fastest player on team is on D, so he can skate it out, instead of using that speed up front, the Swedish twins do little to nothing, Frosh worked hard, no one can throw a check worth a pinch, top line all looked like they were trying to impress the scots and agents, more shorties on PP ? Are you supposed to get outshot on PP?
My guess, Marty gets the start" Cornell gets the hook,as per usual, and no one else gets touched, could Anthoine hit somebody??? could we get some true sr leadership" instead of guys who curl up into fetal position every time we play on the road in Boston......

How the hell did whitehead ever recruit nyquist???

There's some talent like abbott, flynn, diamond and o'neill, but wow, can't believe your goaltending.

Management of the Whit is now in-house, has been for the last couple of years. But management has nothing to do with the empty seats; it's the perception that folks have of the program. While UNH has not fallen as fast as Maine, the fans are smart enough to see that the product on the ice isn't at the same level as ten years ago. Just like Maine, you have guys skating first and second line who would have been fourth liners at best in the Mowers, Krog, Haydar days. Personally, I think this has as much to do with the state of college hockey in general as the recruiting and coaching of individual teams. But that's a topic for a whole other thread.

That being said, UNH has improved in the last three weeks. When I saw them at Northeastern then they could not do anything offensively or defensively. We wondered if they would ever score a goal. Since then they have improved offensively, thanks to Umile constant shaking up of the lines. I'm sure he will settle on some combinations later in the season but, for now, no player's job is safe. UNH is also gotten better play from DiGirolamo of late. The first two UMass goals last night were deflections (one a double) that he had no chance on. But the defense is still a work in progress, with three newcomers back there. Bottom line, UNH may not be overly impressive to someone watching them for the first time but, believe me, those who have watched them since the season began know that they are getting better.

Isn't Dumoulin from Maine? Seeing him leave the state for BC is more proof than anything of Maine's fall from grace. Isn't it?
