Larrys article today is all about Nate Lehman, he's more excited about Nate than Maine hockey or so it seems:)

That's why I hardly ever post anymore. This team/coach is the definition of insanity. Doing/saying the same things over and over and expecting a different result. Yes Wally I am VERY sick of it.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!

Maine is always going to be a small time school in basketball. Is 2-3K that unrealistic? UVM has a BBall capacity of around 3K I think, but aren't they talking about a new combined hockey/bball arena that would seat of 6K for hockey and around 7K for BB? IF capacity ever became a problem they could always move games back to the Alfond.

Do they REALLY need to be spending $15 MILLION on a 2-3K basketball gym????

So the North Dakota series taught the team how much harder they have to work according to a tv news spot. Anyone else sick of hearing this, seems to be a theme of every team for years. Wonder if that hard work will show up this weekend or once again its all talk

It'd be nice if TIMMAY for once in practice showed them how much harder they need to work. Instead, it's all cupcake time. How do you work hard in a game, if you've never done it in practice?

You play like you practice.

I'd be excited too, if my team had a good young coach behind the bench, and the future was looking bright.

Instead, we got TIMMAY, who generates all the excitement of a fencepost standing in a field.

Hopefully there's a Bulls-Eye on that fence post and this spring he gets fired.

Actually an entertaining game this evening. Is it just me, or did it seem that ME flipped a switch and played physical. Not just finishing checks, but hunting for 'em. Nemic and Cerratani stick-out in my mind. Guys were crossing several lanes to make a hit; the D crashed down along the boards during the pinch and hit a Friar instead of slapping at his stick, and ME had guys back to protect against odd-man rushes; and all the guys were lining dudes up for a big collision almost all game. They didn't always connect, but it forced the Friars out of their lane and knocked down their speed. Rude is the best word I can think of to describe how ME played vs PC. And it occurs to me that Timmay's feelings are hurt by all the love for Nate Leaman so he sicked his Bears on Leaman's team to make-up for it. Oh well. I enjoyed seeing the team hit.

Also, is there a rule on the books for blindside hits in NCAA? Abbott's check in the 1st(?) was not an elbow, but he did come from the blindside. Cerratani's hit from behind was just that. Aside from that, I really liked his game. And it was great to see Nemic throw his weight around. About d*mn time.

Tending was, meh. Maine's defensive zone play from the dots to the goal line was gawd-awful. They looked alright in the corners and behind the net as well as up high. It just seems weird that they can't figure it out or stop trying as hard in the slot. Don't get it.

Providence couldn't handle Maine's top line in the first period. Maine had numerous opportunities but couldn't score. Maine "played the body" tonight, more than usual I thought. Ouellette needs to be reigned in on his tendency to play the puck. It's good to be able to play the puck, but he did it tonight in the wrong situations. Maine was lucky that goals were not scored in at least two instances. I suspect Sullivan will be in goal tomorrow night. Overall, Maine looked good considering they haven't played for awhile. Committed too, many penalties though. It was a wild one, and a lot of fun.

Hats off to Joey Diamond tonight. I was critical of his play against ND; tonight he showed what an asset he can
be when he plays smart hockey.

Yes, Diamond showed much more discipline. I think he may now realize that he will be benched again if he doesn't show more composure. Another outstanding performance tonight was Matt Mangene. He did so many great things with his puck possession behind the net leading to a goal and his speed in carrying the puck out of the defensive zone.

yeah, mangene is starting to figure it out back there...

ouellette was killing me all game... he was sliding past the play all night and was fortunate that he didn't get burned more by it... you hear people talk about goalie's playing "quiet"... ouellette is the more like the pep band... if he gets his side to side movement tightened up a bit, he will become what we all think he can be...

From what I'm seeing of Ouellette, last year and this season so far is a goalie that needs shots on goal to be "IN" the game, some tenders need lots of shots to be effective...

Nate did an amazing job at Union, which used to be a bottom-feeding program in a bottom-feeding conference.

We've driven over to watch them occasionally over the years, and they generally got hammered, but we caught the sweep of Maine in Schenectady a couple of years back.As we were driving home listening to the post-game on the radio, I remember the announcer saying that Union had landed the top prep-prospect goalie in the country...And you can imagine how good that made me feel about what Maine has had in net for years now.

(Timmy's extension expires in the Spring, right?)
