I don't follow football that closely but from guys who do, they'll tell ya Cozzy bleeds blue, doubt you can say that about Timmay. Its fun the team is doing so well, enjoy it while you can:)

Seconded....staff deserves so much credit for doing this without Donte Dennis and without Buttles.

Ahem....unless those 65 scholarships are driving more revenue than the 18 that hockey has, i think we should let the FB'ers have their day and move on.

Tough questions like who is the keeper we can ride, who should center Abbott and Flynn, do we have a third line that can score...do the D like to hit, but can't based on Coaching direction, does skating the puck out of the zone really work over a fuull season ( or does it hide bad passing that a number of D exhibit, and who is Timmay's tailor.....(ok last one for laughs).

PC coming in with a new 'tude...Leamen has them thinking they are for real.....

Goalie.....if I had to choose one..it would be marty...he has a lot of upside.......Center flynn and abbott?.....diamond is the obvious choice...but beattie would work......any combo of leen, shemansky, klas, higgins i feel will begin to score...they have to....Oniell and cornell hit....but yes...it looks as if whitehead all but forbids contact....and aggression....and heart from his players

Flynn-Beattie-Abbott sounds good to me.

Also, for those who haven't heard: Jimmy Howard and his wife welcomed a baby boy into the world on Sunday. Big time congrats!

I wonder if the price of tickets for football will increase now that they have experienced some success.

Yes, the football program is drawing more revenue right now. Hockey has become an afterthought. Give football the spotlight they have earned. You know why they earned it? They win (ranked 8th in the FCS poll today). Case closed. Hockey hasn't earned anything, and I know it's early, but the limited results do speak volumes. Hopefully the HUGE football game on the 5th against Towson will draw double what hockey is getting at this point, 7596 (3798x2) isn't really out of the question.

Theres really two things that hockey can do at this point. One is start Marty and clean up the lines situation. Maybe, just maybe, that could improve this team (though I've mostly given up as long as Timmy the zombie is behind the bench).

I think you need to keep Beattie seperated from Flynn and Abbott to provide some kind of balance. Putting those 3 guys together means 0 scoring from your other lines (not that they have been getting anything anyway).

Amen! Who REALLY wants to to talk hockey now. TIMMAY has driven us out of the Top 20 and into college hockey oblivion. All hail Black Bear Football and F Whitehead!

I've seen three out of Maine's four games and haven't been disappointed with their performance in any of them. Did people think that all of a sudden Maine was going to turn up with a top five team this year? I rated Maine as somewhere between 10 and 15 in the country coming into this year and that is basically the level they have played at.

There are only 5 home games for football. Ticket prices would have to increase dramatically to produce more revenue than hockey.

Does the hockey program make $350-$500K with guarantee games.

Are you referring to the hockey team?I'm confused...

I saw no reason whatsoever to pick Maine hockey in the Top-20.That they were ranked at all must have been based on ancient history...It's pretty amazing how long their reputation has out-lived their actual performance.

You are so right, they had NO Business even being in the Top 20 Pre-Season rankings...now they have dropped out of the Top 20.

I don't think the hockey program earns guaranteed money like football and men's basketball. The guaranteed money for football is still not enough to keep the program going in it's present league. There is some concern that Maine will have to leave the CAA and join another league involving less travel to reduce costs. One of the problems is that there are fewer competitive teams in New England who haven't already joined other leagues. Teams in the Patriot League are not as competitive as the CAA and I don't believe the conference winner receives an automatic bid like the CAA enjoys.

Agreed.

They can do $5 million Alfond renovations every other year until the cows come home but until there is a change at the top, nothin' is changin'.

The Patriot League receives an auto bid like the CAA. In fact, even the lower scholarship limit NEC does now. UMaine hockey has lost about 1,000 paying customers per game compared to a few seasons ago.......that means 1,000 x $20 x 16 games = $320K (+ lost concession/merchandise revenue). $320-$350K lost per season is not peanuts for a financially strapped athletic dept. Football on the other hand, while costing more.......actually has the ability to increase revenues at a much quicker pace with a higher ceiling depending on how the team is doing (like with every program). Right now, I'm just seeing a lot more upside with the football program in terms of growth and future revenue generation........heck, they just eliminated 300 seats in Alfond! And now they are talking about spending $15 million on a basketball venue that will max out at 2-3K.......LOL. Seems to me that the administration at UMaine either has no clue or doesn't care about generating revenue.......now or in the future. With Maine being a top welfare state, maybe they just feel a sense of entitlement like the general population???
