Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched
It's a weird twist though, because she comes off as the more callous one not consumed by feelings and demonstrating that it's just part of the job. But she began to recognize she has feelings for Phillip and all of a sudden the 'trysts' of the job now bother her. I love this aspect because both characters are back and forth on this and struggle with their loyalty to Mother Russia, then toss in his growing affinity for America(ns) and it adds a brilliant dynamic to the entire story.
btw - as much as I enjoy The Following this is one show I would have been satisfied to see them wrap up in one season and not continue. Perhaps they will present reasons to remain compelled, but I can't at this point envision a realistic storyline in which it continues for a full 2nd season.
I'm not sure if that's it entirely though. I think the fact that Phillip had sex with another woman is truly hurtful to Elizabeth. They started out as two strangers, thrown together on a job, and expected to have sex with each other to produce children, cause that's what American couples do. And they knew that using sex with others would be a strong tactic to fulfill their goals.
But as the years have passed, they've grown to actually love and care about each other, to be a real family. I'm not sure if she knows he's screwing Martha, but if she does, she can accept that, cause that's part of the job. But screwing his old girlfriend, the past love of his life, went beyond that. Not business, but emotions, feelings. And that hurt her, because of the feelings she's developed for him.
