TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

Getting a little bored with the zombie apocalypse.

Even though they continue to find new ways to make the zombies look gross in death, I believe I've become desensitized to it.

Glad to see Rick strap the gun back on. I think the show needs him back as the bad-arse and sane leader. Didn't care for crazy/unsure Rick.

The trailer for next week looks promising with a truly huge zombie hoard.

I've grown bored for an episode or two in the past and they've always brought me back, so expecting the same. Just been a slow start to the season - for me.

7500 zombies according to Greg Nicotero last night. Looks like a small city or a large factory complex behind them.

The big mystery is who burned the two bodies but I would be just as concerned with who is feeding live rats to the walkers to weaken that part of the fence. Burning the bodies I understand - they are infected and were going to end up dead anyway. Better to kill them before they turn. The latter is a threat to everyone in the prison.

Did not see that coming on Homeland!!

Getting a little bored with the zombie apocalypse.

I still like the show but zombies are the least exciting monster. They just shamble about eating people for no reason. If you're dead, why are you so hungry?
Yawn.

The Black List may end up being only a one year show because the backstory is moving so fast and they're not milking it like The Mentalist did until this season.

Still, one year of The Black List is better than 6 seasons of The Mentalist.

Oh I think they are just ending the husband backstory...we still need to find out who Red's "Adversary" is (mentioned this week) and why he went rogue in the first place. Plus we dont know anything about her father and how Red knows him.

I think they can milk it 3 seasons before it gets old...

True. The Red backstory is worth an entire season all by itself.

My completely wild *** guess, that's probably wrong, is that Red IS her father. Admittedly I kinda blasted through the first four episodes on DVR, so I might have missed some important details that would imply otherwise, but this is what I got:

Her dad left when she was a kid. Red disappeared in 1990, 23 years ago. I don't know how old she's supposed to be, but I'd guess somewhere between 25 and 30, which would put her at an age where she might not recognize him, especially if he wasn't around alot, and she had a difficult upbringing, which is the general vibe I'm getting.

In the restaurant in Montreal, I believe she made some comment on how it wasn't a date, and he said something to the effect that she could just be his daughter. Maybe nothing, but it seems like an oddly specific line as opposed to just filler dialogue, especially in that context.

In the intro video, they mention him leaving his family, and there's a quick shot of a little girl. Maybe Elizabeth?

In the Stewmaker's photo album, he removed a picture of a woman, and seemed to want to make sure nobody saw. Maybe his wife? I know Elizabeth's mom died when she was young, but I don't remember what details they mentioned about it. If it is her, how did they know she was dead, as the Stewmaker's MO was to make people disappear completely, unless it used to be different. This point seems iffy to me, but it's something to think about anyway.

Then there's just the general vagueness about Red, and her father, and the thing with her husband (I haven't watched the last episode yet, so I don't know how that factors in), the fact that her higher-ups seem like they know or suspect something that they're not telling her. Then combine Red's concern for her safety, fixation with her, and familiarity with aspects of her life that wouldn't be expected unless he had reason to keep tabs on her.

Something to think about anyway :p

There is no way the FBI/CIA knows that he is her father and lets her on the case. IF somehow he is her father its from a second family that would have known him as a criminal, not a military guy.

There's also no way the FBI lets a suspect in custody just wander off on his own to murder people, but we're playing with a slightly different, much lazier set of rules here.

It's called Fiction. And it's fun. :)

The FBI didnt know her dad was a criminal...they found out AFTER she was already in the FBI, vetted and put on the case. (the annoying Dude Agent said so in the pilot after she reveals info to Red) I am pretty sure she knew her father and she never met Red before...

They are trying to make you believe Red is her father which is why I dont think they will go that way. I bet he is alive though and dollars to doughnuts he is going to be on the Blacklist.

yes, but that is completely different than her being reddington's daughter in the family that got left behind when he went dark.

That family I believe is supposed to be dead...

The Red as her father thing is just too obvious...I think it is a red (no pun intended) herring.

I think it is far more likely that Red and her father were associates and Red made some promise to him?

That seems to be the most likely scenario. His motives behind "turning" himself in and insisting on working with Agent Keen are the main storyline and it will be interesting to see how quickly/slowly the reveal is going to be and what they do with it afterwards.

Best guess on who is doing surveillance on Agent Keen's house? FBI? CIA? Red? Who ever her husband's bosses are?

I'm not saying it's not an entertaining show if all you want is to tune in and see James Spader be glib and kill the world's most bored criminals for 60 minutes every week. Just that there's very little effort put into the show beyond, "Hey, we've got James Spader! And this villain used to be scary on another show. Close enough!" Silliness is fine when a show acknowledges and embraces it(see: American Horror Story), but here, most of it just comes across as laziness on the part of the writers.
