Oh god. Donna was the worst of the new companions. Give me martha or even rose anyday over donna.

We'll have to agree to disagree. She was annoying in Runaway Bride, but she grew on me. Not every companion in the new series needs to try and get into The Doctor's pants a la Rose, Martha, Amy. Loved her smart *** attitude. Hated the ending for her where her mind gets wiped.

It's been reported that the entire last season of HIMYM will take place in the 56 hours leading up to Barney and Robin's wedding. Uhh... what?

That actually could work.

Yikes. That's going to be one long season to sit through. They seem to be picking the most arduous way possible to tell this story. Well, what the hey, I've stuck around this long.

My personal companion rankings for the new Doctors(haven't seen all of Amy, or any of new girl) would go: Rose Tyler. Wide Gap. Amy Pond. Martha Jones. Wide Gap. Idi Amin. Wide Gap. Donna Noble.

Donna gets more credit than she deserves because a certain segment of the audience doesn't care for any sort of romantic angle, but Catherine Tate is just so unbelievably unfunny, and tries so hard--which forced David Tennant to up his goofiness to 11 to match-- that by the end, it was like watching two cocaine addicts fly around through time and space.

They've already BEEN telling the story in the most arduous way possible, so this is hardly a new development.

Tangent: I like how they've been using the same stock video of the kids sitting on the couch for years. I guess they kind of have to, since they (the actors, I mean) were teenagers when Ted started telling the story and now they're in their mid-twenties.

I know the reveal to the kids has already been shot...

Is anyone watching Rectify? Its on some half-assed channel that I didn't even know I got, but I saw ads for it, and they said its made by the same people as make Breaking Bad. I've watched 2 episodes, and I kinda like it. It is a very slow burn, but it is an interesting story.

I thought Rose was fantastic and I'm happy that she'll be in the 50th special later this year, but the writers played the "I love the Doctor" card too many times for my liking. I knew it was novel when they first did it with Rose, but I grew to like it less and less with Martha and Amy. (Thank god that Amy grew out of it and went with Rory eventually.)

Truth be told, Donna reminds me of the Mrs. in spirit. Both love their grandpa and think their mom should care more about them. Both are smart alecks and have red hair. It may sound corny, but that's why I've liked her.

I do think we can agree that Sarah Jane is the best of the old and new series.

I think the actual big reveal will be seeing how Ted turns into Bob Saget. :D

Has anyone been watching part two of season seven of Doctor Who? I've checked a few episodes with the new companion and I think she's quite good. I liked the one where they are trapped on a Russian sub with an Ice Warrior and the last episode with the redesigned Cybermen. Just wanted thoughts from the other Who fans on the board.

Yes! They've been pretty good, although some of the episodes are more miss than hit. The last episode with the Doctor's chess match was fantastic. I agree with you more than the others who've posted (decided not to multiquote all of you, sorry) about liking Donna. Clara is awesome, she's a bit like Rose but not interested in the Doctor, although it does seem like they're trying to increase the love interest angle.

I'd just like to point out that amusing comparison between How I Met Your Mother's 8 seasons vs Doctor Who's 33.

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

Meh - for me HIMYM was never about him actually meeting the mother because once it happens the show is over. I never looked at it that literally and would have been fine had they not ever shown the face of the woman he meets period. Hell I would have been fine had they never given her any dialogue - almost none of the side-characters worked other than in bits and pieces anyway. The show succeeded for several seasons and dozens of episodes (imho including this season more often than not) without her and didn't fail because they dragged the reveal too long, the writing simply failed at times. I never looked to Friends to have a conclusion with Ross & Rachel, for Sammy to get married, for Jerry to become selfless...

It's about the journey and nearly always will be.

I wanted to see it, but forgot to watch the premiere; it did look really interesting. And I believe it's on the Sundance channel. You know, the channel that shows all those movies about gay cowboys eating pudding.

While I agree that the writing is what failed, My opinion is that the writing failed because they continued to extend the show and had to fill even more episodes. Hell, they have been alluding to this wedding since the season 4 (or was it 5) finale. Maybe that's when the writing failed, this isn't a show that needed a huge cliff-hanger to end the season, not having meet the mother should have been enough.

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

I know it was beaten to death but at the same time, how many of us have been hung up on a girl and just wouldn't let it go for far longer than our rational side knew made any sense at all? It seems quite appropriate, especially for a "best friend" that's still in your life.

True, but the problem is they revealed in Episode #1 she wasnt the mom...she is "Auntie Robin" so it is stupid :D

I was gonna say that the entirety of Season 9 has to be the build up to the wedding and the wedding itself. It is the only way that makes sense.

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

Last episode of The Office tonight.
I liked it. The Office really fell of the rails in it's last... 6 seasons, but when I started watching it again this year, I enjoyed the ride.

A few characters come back in the finale, I won't talk about which ones (unless we're past spoiling the thing), but one of them came back for pretty just two lines, and they were delivered perfectly.

My only real disappointment (other than general complaints about The Office in general) was Jim and Pam. I can't tell you what a lame copout the Jim and Pam storyline was without almost sounding like a feminist. Put short, they had a conflict this season that happened because Jim is a self-righteous ****, and in the finale, they played it off like Pam was just being fussy and holding Jim back from his "true potential" to keep the status quo. It was lame.

I'm looking forward to another awesome season of Marshall and Lily plots. I wonder how they'll fit it into the wedding plot. Maybe Lily won't want Marshall to eat too many appetizers or he'd be full for the entree, but then he goes and eats too many, and has to hide it from her, and hilarity ensues. And then in another episode Marshall decides he wants to be a pirate and starts talking like a pirate to other wedding guests, but then he realizes he doesn't actually want to be a pirate, and hilarity ensues. This new setting gives them a chance for many more awesome and meaningful Marshall/Lily storylines.
