Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

There are still quite a few juicy possibilities here, and it would get super spoiler-y to explain them all. Suffice it to say that it's not really a given that Talisa's revealation yesterday provides us any hints about what has happened/is happening with Jeyne in the books.

The hints in the books about Jeyne are all riddled with second-hand gossip and conflicting details. Hard to say what's really going on there.
Well, right, I don't think it tells us what's going on in the books, but I think it cuts through a lot of the gossip about Jeyne, as you allude to, if we assume Talisa is just an outright replacement.

Some of the spoiler-y possibilities:
  1. Talisa is lying about being pregnant. And that's not her mother she's writing a letter to (in Valyrian).
  2. Talisa IS pregnant, but she's going to die in the RW. This would certain render moot any Jeyne Westerling being pregnant theories. At the least, if there truly is correlation, it would indicate that Jeyne really has no more contributions to make to the story.
  3. Talisa is or isn't pregnant, and she'll become a hostage at the RW. This would allow the show to put Talisa in the same boat as Jeyne in the books: keep her out of sight with only rumor to show us what's going on with her.
  4. Talisa somehow avoids any particular fate at the RW and/or runs off to be at home in Volantis. Possibly the same result as her being a hostage (secrets, no known information about the baby, etc.). All of this would be a real head-scratcher, as having a child of Robb Stark is a pretty big deal, so why keep it out of sight?
  5. Talisa is pregnant and is somehow kept in the show. Total game changer, when you think of it.

So we finally get to put a face to Ted's wife. I know the show had some very boring stretches but I think it had a very good 8th season overall and definitely did extremely well the last few weeks. Although the boring streches just reinforce the fact that this show should have been about 5-6 seasons, not the 9 it will be.

Out of morbid curiosity, was it anyone from the first 4-5 seasons of the show? I quit watching a long time ago.

No, she's a new girl, and not the best looking woman he's dated.

Oh, and they didn't actually meet. They just showed her buying a train ticket that leads to her meeting Ted.

Um, that screams "yet another twist" then.

How do you mean? The show officially announced that this is Ted's future wife. If they change that, they're going to make a lot of fans really PO'd. The reaction wouldn't be along the lines of laughing and saying that oh, you got us good that time. It'll be the f--- this show, I'm done.

Didn't know it was officially announced. :o

So it's going the safe route, like so many other network shows. *Sigh*

*Still angry at "Friends" taking the safe route and hooking up Rachel/Ross at the end. It coulda been a great ending.

haha, why would that matter now? They already got 8 seasons out of us and supposedly 9 is the last one, if you haven't said f this show yet, you probably aren't going to and even if you do, they got 9 seasons out of you.

After last season, I was about to walk away. I even did for a while, but heard that it had been getting better so I started watching again. It's definitely been better than last season, but only occasionally approaching what it was during the first four seasons. The bachelor party episode was great.

No snark, I actually don't remember that.
Ross chased Rachel to airport, said "I love you" (or equivalent). She stayed.

It could have been great if she said, "We are not meant to be" or "I don't love you that way" or whatever. Make it a total buzzkill. I'm an optimist, but for great tv? If THAT happened?! That would have been awesome. Total curve. Against all that network TV has done for years.

That's probably true. But it was getting to the point where enough people may have said they were done. I think the show sensed it and finally threw a bone to the audience. They've got nothing left and the show is getting a bit too serious sometimes. They need to keep it a bit lighter and work through all these issues quickly, which can be done by getting to the mother finally.

She does have a bit of a strange look to her and Ted has dated way better looking girls. I do see a litle Alissa Milano type look to her .

I remember it wasn't quite that easy. To increase the drama didn't he miss her at the airport but she decided not to leave and went back to find him?

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

From a very positive review of last night's HIMYM episode:
Some people feel like any time spent hashing over Ted’s feelings for Robin is a waste of time since we know she’s not the mother. These people, I imagine, also think Citizen Kane is about finding out Rosebud was a sled, and that it’s a terrible film because we waste so much time talking about Kane’s newspaper days and political ambitions and attempt to get his wife an opera career. Waste of time, all of it, right?
Fair point, but I'd still argue that the series has taken too many turns and gotten lost too many times for Ted's story to really mean all that much at this point.
