Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

You're right. I haven't watched the last several seasons, but I saw a tweet that said that this ending has already been given away this season, by items in the background in Don's office. They're the exact same as the opening sequence now.

Can you try to find the description of the objects coming together? That's interesting.

The opening sequence has always been the show's MacGuffin, "does he or doesn't he"? My attitude has changed with every season. I would far prefer the show end ambiguously -- I think a straight high dive out of the window would be a cop out. But it's Wiener's cross to bear -- he's set that in the viewer's mind since the very first episode.

Newest ep: combo creepy and whoa did stories escalate. And for the love of Parise, NO MORE GLEN/BETTY SCENES. Worst. Acting. Ever. And Joan can't be THAT dumb, can she? Unless I'm totally off on this guy...he's just too slick to be true.

I disagree with you on the Betty/Glen scenes. I loved their icky awkwardness. That was perfect. And just as with the Glen scene way, way, way long ago, they made me see some good in Betty, and that is rare.

If I were Joanie, I'd have turned the guy down flat after he came with the flowers. He turns on a dime from a huge life decision, and why? Because your boobs are nice? I simply don't trust a guy who can do that. The whole point is he wasn't a cad -- he was a grown man who knew what he wanted. And then he threw it away for somebody he barely knows? That's not the life partner I want to depend on. Even Roger has more character than that.

It was tweeted by Andy Greenwald from Grantland. In the opening sequence one of the "scenes" shows a bunch of pictures falling to street, and in the last episode you can see a dilapidated Kodak box right in front of Don's window.

And what about her? "I'm going to send my child away" for you. WTeFF? Stupid.

That was brilliant. It captured the complete absurdity of her situation. It was Joanie at her best; I loved it.

I've been watching these on Me.TV. I'm blown away by how beautifully some of these are done, like one act plays. It was really good television.

Stephen King (and the writers of Shutter Island) should be paying royalties to the writers of the second-ever episode, starring John Forsythe as the patient and a young, strangely attractive Cloris Leachman as his sister-in-law. Part of the plot even takes place in Maine! :p

To clarify, I meant SHE was stupid, not the situation as it was presented/writing/etc. The situation is absolutely absurd.

I don't understand what you mean about her being stupid.

Interesting. I haven't seen that one yet. The one with Roddy McDowell and Ephraim Zimbalist ("See the Monkey Dance") could have been an Ira Levin play.

Frau Blücher was a cutie when she was young. She has lovely eyes, and amazing boobs. If you're, you know, into that sort of thing...

Another really weirdly pretty ingenue: Angela Lansbury. She looks like Betty Davis without the exophthalmia.

She's supposed to be this smart business-woman, very independent (but also wanting a good man; understandable). So she's just going to ship her son away for this guy she's just met? This implies she's going to do just about anything for him, which goes against her character. Wayyyyy against her character.

The Americans
A very uneven episode, especially for a season finale. Why did we spend so much time at the EST seminars? Where is Kimmy? Martha? Is the Nina storyline going to go somewhere? In the middle of an investigation into a bug that was planted in Gaad's office Stan goes to Gaad and tells him he's been working with the Russians behind his back? However, did anyone really think he was going to lose his job? In the real world yes, but not in TV world: that would ruin the tension in this show. The Jennings' phone is bugged by the Soviets, right? So they'll know Paige has spilled her guts to Pastor Tim. Goodbye Pastor Tim - unless scuttlebutt is correct and he is a KGB agent. Then Paige has a whole different problem. Maybe she'll get to meet Nina where the Soviets are going to send her...

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

First off, The Americans: :eek::eek::eek:

Second: Priceless: similar but also very different takes! It's like the difference between scotch and whiskey. It's nothing...yet, everything.

Hidden: Martha is still alive. That surprised me. Hell, she wasn't even IN this ep! I said last week if they kill off Paige...kudos. That would totally elevate this series to a whole 'nother level. JFC. I don't think Philip will turn, but he'll disconnect the USSR side from his American self and become ruthless. Stone Cold. He tried opening up, and got shut down, by Elizabeth. If he doesn't go Spy On/Spy Off, he'll snap.

Oh, Scarlet (or anyone else, but I think Scarlet has a leg up on this type of knowledge):

If a show is a bona fide hit with critics, and at least a decent success with viewers, is there a way to find out how long the series is going to be? I bring this up b/c of The Americans. It's no viewer hit like SOA or Breaking Bad or Walking Dead, but it's been a solid performer.

Personally, I give it 2 more seasons, otherwise they jump the shark. The general trend of late is 6-7 seasons for a big hit.

Anyone watch Daredevil on Netflix? Just finished up with the season 1...

I thought it was very well done... Great character development and a solid story... A different take on the comic book genre compared to what is offered at the movies..

I expect them to tie up some loose ends and resolve some story lines in a season finale. The only thing they wrapped up was the defector (and the Beeman's marriage which no one cares about). Martha is up in the air, Kimmy seems to be forgotten (which is fine; we don't need pedoPhil) but some closure would be nice.

Not Scarlet, but I have heard both The Americans and Bates Motel will be 5 seasons. Don't know how accurate that will be, but that's what I've heard. That would take The Americans up to about 1986 (Chernobyl) unless they do some serious time jumps.

I thought the Beeman marriage angle was important. He's even more lost, which could come up in his line of work (distant, "found a friend" in the KGB, lone person, never bothers anyone, quiet guy but nice to me...see a pattern? ;) ).
