Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

So...no wonder NBC is putting Community back on this week and putting several other shows on re-runs or a several week hiatus. The NCAA tournament will be on Thursday nights for the next few weeks. If Community is picked up for a fourth season on NBC I'd be shocked. Manufactured to fail.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Expected twists in Walking Dead this week, but **** if it wasn't a good episode!

Next week should be all kinds of epic.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Walking Dead: First of all, that was a good episode. Second, what the hell is the deal with walkers coming back when they haven't been bitten?

Spoiler, they are all already infected, and are in fact the walking dead. IT'S A PUN! A PUNNNN!

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

I'm finally starting to feel like The Walking Dead is starting to be a show with better defined characters and some sense of artistic craft- so I was pleasantly surprised by how good I thought last night's episode was.

I think the bit with walkers not being bitten could mean that the "disease" has gone airborne. Or they get infected when they bludgeon a zombie and the blood squirts all over them, which happens a lot. Of course, none of this explains why the ones who aren't bitten don't show signs of the infection and die first, like that skinny whats-his-face from the first season that we never knew anything about. In either case, I'm wondering if this has anything to do with with what Dr. Whats-his-name-that-guy-from-the-Truman-Show-and-Miracle whispered into Rick's ear at the end of the first season.

Also, the unfortunately named T-Dawg had lines this time!

The camera shot where Shane and Rick were in the meadow with the low fat moon in the background was REALLY sweet. Kind of a showdown at the O K except Rick had his back to Shane. Symbolism? Shane trying to snake Rick from behind?

Re: T-Dog's line(s)... Awww, HELL no! Cliche much?

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

I kept expecting an arrow to come through Shane's head during the standoff with Rick. The other two were pretty sure Shane was lying already. They will be able to backup Rick's story when they get back...assuming they do.

A week ago I questioned why there were no walkers around the farm, now there is an army of them? they don't look like they stick together for companionship...why would there suddenly be a flash mob of flesh eaters in the forest at that exact moment? And his son got to the exact same place how? At night? By himself? Mom is going to get reported to HHS at this rate.

Still, enjoyed the episode very much. Next week's start should be exciting...I don't know how rick and carl can both run through a forest in the dark without somebody falling, also not clear where the other two guys are in relation to Rick.

They mentioned in the early scenes that the natural barriers around the farm (the creek, the marsh, whatever) are drying up. Then the gun went off when Shane was stabbed, then a second gunshot to kill Walker Shane. But it is a little convenient that there just happens to be an army of walkers strolling by.

Last night on Talking Dead someone asked if Carl had Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. He does have a habit of sneaking away and turning up in the wrong places...

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Alcatraz is dangerously close to becoming more "Cop Drama" than anything else. They are hanging themselves. Suspense of the actual plot only goes so far. They need to reach the payoff part(s) pretty quick, or this show is dead in the water. Stop giving hints at multiple connections. Start connecting those dots, and quickly.

Its a JJ Abrams show, if Lost is any indication, most dots don't get connected.

Double edged sword. If all the show has going for it as a discriminator is the buzz about what the possible connections are, then making those connections kills the show. c.f. Heroes.

My wife and I are dorky enough to have bought the TPB of the comic book, and Carl does kill Shane in the comic. Nice to see they had him kill zombie Shane instead.

I said if it just becomes an "inmate of the week" type show, it was gonna get real old real fast, and it's in danger of doing just that.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

Then if it lasts this first season, I'll be surprised, given Scarlet's info, and my media geek friend's info.
It doesn't have to connect the dots, it just has to thow enough dots out there, that are big enough and interesting enough to get people to think about the show when its not on. When we're sitting in this thread trying to figure out how person A is connected to story X, then the show has been successful. Up until this point, there hasn't been enough to get people talking like that.

Re: TV Shows VII: Who gets canceled next?

JJ Abrams isn't going to connect a thing.
Well, I wouldn't go that far. Using Lost as an example, he did make some connections eventually, but ended up leaving too much unexplained in the end. The problem is, unless they let it go for 2 seasons or more, I doubt he connects anything.

That's more what I meant. "JJ Abrams isn't going to connect a thing. Yet."
