I'm not big on superhero shows either. Legion, so far, has been only a small step down from an HBO show.
There are a few hokey parts, but just like Kepler said it's a really good psychological drama.
I'd add Futurama and Star Trek TNG if your Star Trek wasn't a catch all. Sopranos is probably worth mentioning. I also think Frasier warrants some consideration considering it's only one of two laugh track showsI ever really liked (Newsradio). I'm also surprised The West Wing wasn't mentioned.
I couldn't stand The OA. It tried to be good but failed. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Seinfeld was also the single most-overrated show of all time. It had a few decent one-liners but I'd put Curb in over Seinfeld every time. Curb is everything Seinfeld failed to be (for me).
How is Friday Night Lights not on this list??? Also, The Americans.
Sorry, but popularity and references don't make a show great. Otherwise Friends would be on everyone's list.
I tried starting the Americans but Xfinity made me pay instead of it being free on demand. I am still hoping it drops on Netflix, but I'm not optimistic.
If you have Amazon Prime, the first few seasons are on it up through the season before last. The prior season comes out a few weeks prior to the new season's premiere.
I do the season pass. It's around $15/$20, IIRC, but the episodes are yours to "keep" in your video library. Due to the few shows I watch, it's not worth it for me to get Prime just to get the exclusive shows they have.
I have it for other reasons, the streaming TV is just a bonus. Besides, there are few shows exclusive on Prime that interest me that I can't also get on either Hulu or Netflix.
