TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Not sure why I watch "How To Get Away With Murder". There is not one redeemable character. Quantico is the same way actually. Must be an ABC thing.

Concerned a little about The Blacklist. It's becoming like the aforementioned. If there isn't a payoff then I will start to wonder. At least there's redeemable characters. However, the most redeemable in my mind destroyed that last season.

Pitch pilot was OK. Lots of potential pitfalls but so far not bad.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I liked it and will continue to watch.

Also checked out Notorious, which is holding the Thursday 9pm on ABC slot for Scandal till Kerry Washington has her baby. It was a good fit for the night, it was an OK show. Better than I thought it would be. I'm just completely surprised the producers didn't get the rights to use Duran Duran's Notorious as its theme song.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Watched the premier of Westworld with Anthony Hopkins and Ed Harris among others. It's very intriguing. and they laid the groundwork for several different plots. I look forward to more of this series.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

As I expected, Lethal Weapon is complete crap. The first two eps are nothing but a rewrite of the original movie script and the acting is AWFUL (especially the clown playing Riggs.)

Westworld pilot was beautiful and fascinating. We are living in the golden age of television.

It was incredible. I made this post on FB:
The Westworld pilot was amazing. Dark, thrilling, sexy, and deeply philosophical.

This is going to be an easy add to the rotation. I love the questions it asks - maybe pretentiously, but who cares - about our own humanity and psyche.

It's hard to know where they are going to go with this, I haven't seen the old film, but it's going to be a dam good placeholder until Game of Thrones comes back.

Between Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, and Ed Harris, this is going to be up for a lot of acting awards come Emmy season.

The ending to the episode was so perfect (and apparently subtle), I really struggle with how you execute a better episode. The music was incredible. I heard the piano start playing "Black Hole Sun" and I kept thinking, "Where have I heard this before?" When it clicked I knew the music was going to be great throughout. It was.

I went back and read through a few of the reviews online. AV Club had this to say, "And I am, of course, rooting for the robots; what makes things interesting is that I suspect the writers are too." There is a lot of amazing discussion in the comments thread of the review. I liked this thread and 100% agree:
But the actor that played Dolores' father, Louis Herthum, sold tonight for me. **** he was just the right amount of human disconnect and yet, altogether so human in his anguish and confusion beautifully delivering that entire plot.
Man, that conversation was so heartbreaking as he recalled all the things that have happened to his daughter. Then, though, it became chilling as he said his intention was to meet his maker. The actor was A+, which is quite an accomplishment when you're sharing a scene with Anthony Hopkins.
Plus he had to do the whole scene without pants!

I'm really excited for what this show has to offer.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Timeless pilot was OK, not great. Pretty clichéd for the time travel genre, but since it's at least a little sci-fi on a major network, I'm willing to give it a shot. Needs to get better in a hurry to last more than a season, though.

I didn't catch "Black Hole Sun" on the player piano, but the use of "Paint It Black" was really well done.

Spoiler discussion: With the robots being so lifelike, and The Man In Black's character being what he is, I'm wondering how long it will take before we get the first human-human murder in the world. I was really expecting it to happen before that first episode ended. They must be leading up to it.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Just going through the reddit and AV club comments, I'm finding that there was a lot that I completely missed. How Delores woke up each morning was so subtle I had to see a gif of the three different days to even see it.

I'm going to have to rewatch this again tonight. I didn't even notice the apparent "bait and switch" with Teddy. I guess I didn't really pick out that he was human or a robot and didn't really flinch when he was killed. I figured this was an open world where everyone could die. I'm wondering if I should have read up on this before I watched. I just hate spoilery talk about things so I try to avoid it.
