TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

They can't have really watched it, then. The people who succeed at the course are incredible athletes.
That's the feeling I get. Some seem to get it, some think of it as a more athletic version of Wipeout.

I agree the hot gymnast helped. She also had a great personality -- she was my wife's favorite competitor.
Kaci really helped awareness of the show. Before it was just, to many eyes, another event for young athletic males and I think that turned people off. Then Kaci completing the course showed that it's not just young athletic males and gave the show more attention which allowed the show to show it's wide range of people competing giving it broader appeal.

The prelim stages build "brand recognition" for the athletes which is important for the network since there is no natural "side" for people to root for (something I think is actually a good thing, since I like the fact that everybody is rooting for every athlete on every run). The backstories are a waste of time but no worse than the up close and personal Olympic backstories which are supposedly popular, I assume among people who don't care about the sport but are unaccountably watching the sport.
The Prelim stages also serve as a weeding out stage for most competitors and set an example to viewer as to what the show is about.

The color is broken on my TV. We still have picture and sound, but the picture is tinted blue... like it's a blue and white TV.

Then again, my parents bought it when I was in college. Might as well buy a new 32 inch flat screen; was looking on Amazon and found a few for around $200.

Okay, my memory of S6 of SOA is a little hazy.

What is Jax's beef with Lin exactly? I remember them holding Happy hostage (although I don't recall why), and I know that Gemma tried to pin Tara's murder on a rando Triad, but I'm forgetting the rest of the details.

Lin went after them because they gave the gun trade to the blacks. It upset the "balance" that SOA had between all the clubs. The Chinese wanted the Irish because the Irish offed some of their guys (hence the kidnapping of Happy). SOA delivered the Irish, but then double-crossed the Chinese, and had the blacks massacre a bunch of Lin's guys, to show the Irish what the blacks could do.

And because of that, it became brown/yellow vs black/white.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

We're keeping the Roku box and our Netflix subscription because we've become hooked on 'Luther' and 'Sherlock Holmes.' Luther reminds me of a few detectives I worked with back in the day.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Juice is an idiot. And Gemma continues to be equally stupid in her meddling. I'm actually starting to like Wendy. *shudder* Nero continues to be awesome.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Here's a pretty good rundown of problems with the show that I'm more or less on board with.

http://morningafter.gawker.com/why-sons-of-anarchy-is-no-longer-one-of-the-best-shows-1632951658/

Of course, there are still plenty of great reasons to keep watching (despite my complaints, I'm fully on board for the whole season, regardless of what happens). Just give me 5 minutes of Chibs an Happy each week and I'm good.

Finally all caught up. Just watched last week's episode.

I agree with many (most? all?) of the takes in that article.

Jax was an interesting character in the first couple of seasons as he grappled with his own doubts and showed signs that he actually had some misgivings about the bad things he was doing. By this point, he's a bad guy who's very hard to root for (unlike Walter White) as he seemingly kills without a second thought and without searching for other solutions.

I agree that there's still plenty to watch for this season and I'll see it through - I do like the show. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line though, they missed an opportunity for this to be a truly great show.

I think the last half of last season and the start of this season is missing the major misdirection plays that the club was doing. It's become too straightforward with half-arsed plans. THAT'S what could have made it a truly great show, instead of a really really good one.

Yes... and no.

How many times can they really be expected to pull the wool over everyone's eyes (including law enforcement) and get away with it without even a scratch?

A lot of Jax's plans go a little too well for it to be realistic time after time after time.

It's certainly fun to watch the plans revealed, but after the 5th or 6th perfectly executed ruse that eliminates the enemies and keeps everyone whole, it loses impact.

Given the characters that are no longer with us, I don't know how one could consider that "keeping everyone whole" or not in jail. ;) But I do know what you mean.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I can't wait for Chicago Fire to start up. And Chicago P.D. For that matter.

Gotham is the new show I'm most looking forward to.

Now I'm trying to think of all the dead SAMCRO patches (and <strike>redshirts</strike> prospects) and whether they died as part of SAMCRO shenanigans or as part of a separate/personal beef.

Half-Sack: Result of club business
Miles: Result of club business/a shark-jumping moment for another character
Piney: Completely personal, and insane how it never really escalated the movement to Clay's demise.
<Strike>Lem</strike> Kozik: Club business
Opie: Technically result of club business, but really because of someone else being stupid.
Those three Nomad patches that existed only to be disposable pawns for Clay doing pointless Clay stuff: Whatever.
V-Lin: Club business
Phil: Club business
Clay: Kind of both, when you really think of it. More club business in the way that it happened. Sidenote: I still don't know if this one happened too soon or too late in the show's run. Probably too late, as I was certain that his only reason for sticking around at that point was to impact the endgame.

Then you think of the end of last season, that was indirectly due to club business.

And as for pulling the wool over the law's eyes, the law enforcement people on the show aren't always exactly by-the-book. Or, when they are, they really didn't have enough proof at times to get what they wanted.
