Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Great review of the final episode of Leftovers.

There was once a time when people wrote directly and without the safety of distancing irony, and that time is long, long gone, but this kind of writing is a reminder of what was lost.

A new season of Ink Master started. Apparently they're running a season every six months now; I had no idea. Episode 2 of this season starts in about 15 minutes.

It'd be easier for me to not complain after every SOA episode if Sutter had a script editor to keep the lengths of these things down. I'm honestly trying to enjoy the rest of this ride, but I'm starting to feel like the montages are just there to troll me.

If you follow him on the Tweeter, he has said he'd rather have extended episodes and such to keep it to 7 seasons, rather than going the AMC Split-Season Route. I don't know (yet) if that applies to your specific complaint, but I like that approach. Justified is apparently going to do the same thing, to avoid an extra bloated season.

It's the season premiere, so there's bound to be a lot of table-setting, but based on how the last season played out, it's hard to shake the idea that these episodes would have the same amount of stuff going on in a clean, crisp 60 than they do at 1:30-2:00 every single week.

Gotcha.

Here's a pretty good rundown of problems with the show that I'm more or less on board with.

Of course, there are still plenty of great reasons to keep watching (despite my complaints, I'm fully on board for the whole season, regardless of what happens). Just give me 5 minutes of Chibs an Happy each week and I'm good.
I agree with the Ireland point. Other than that, I strongly disagree with the rest except for the Clay thing, and that I could go either way on.

Saw the premiere. Good setup episode.

Here you go. This is more in line with what I kind of think. Since Sutter is, well, batsh* nuts:

For the other 2 or 3 Bachelor fans on the board, Juan Pablo and Nikki are on the new season of Couples Therapy. All I can say is, poor Nikki.

Also, Treach from Naughty by Nature is a very funny man who I assume will be in prison within a year.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

She knew what she got herself into. He should have picked Claire, then we could at least enjoy the inevitable murder/suicide that would result.

Clare was just on Bachelors in Paradise and, sad to say, she still has the same "as a child my Daddy left me and as God is my witness I will put up with an infinite amount of crap to hold myself a man" neurosis which, paradoxically, makes it very unlikely any man will ever look at her with anything more than a mix of pity, fear, and one night's worth of interest.

I assumed Nikki was just as calculating and cold blooded as Juan Pablo but now I'm not sure. She has actually said (this is very close to verbatim) that when she says I Love You to Juan Pablo and he refuses to say it back to her that it means he's actually more connected to her, since he respects her enough to not use the term lightly.

I read these posts with amusement and fear that two guys are so into The Bachelor. :)

I watched the season premiere of Boardwalk Empire last night. Not sure what to make of it.

This is what comes of having teenage daughters. I'll have you know I used to know the cast of Vampire Diaries and everybody down to the photographers on ANTM. I'm sure I could go about 17 for 20 on Disney princesses, too. :)

I'm finally getting to episode three of utopia.

I'm having a mr and mrs Kepler moment.

"Where the hell did they find these people?" This is the most mentally unstable group of people I have ever seen.

My wife likes it, and she puts up with a lot of crap during the college football season.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

American Ninja Warrior finished it's season tonight with the team competition with the European team winning by .3 seconds on a climb off against the US team on stage 4. Yup, we finally got to see stage 4! The Japanese team got blanked on the scoreboard despite having two (two!) finish stage 3, because they got beat on time by a European and an American.

As for the actual competition, we still haven't had anyone complete all 4 stages. The last man standing was a weatherman Joe Moravsky who failed on the hang climb on stage 3.

It's was a weird season with plenty of normal favorites not even qualifying for the finals. Kacy Catanzaro was obviously the big story qualifying for the finals but she failed stage 1. She fell at the Spider Jump because at 5' tall, she has no margin for error. Stage 2 had a new obstacle in the Rope Maze (basically a series of ropes with some that slide, some that are stationary and some that drop) that hung up a bunch of people and Stage 1 had a new obstacle in the Curtain Slide (grab hold of a curtain, slide down a track, land on a small mat) that eliminated a lot too.

The pattern has pretty much emerged in that the parkour guys can clear stage 1 easily, struggle some on stage 2, and be out on stage 3. Meanwhile the rock climbers struggle on stage 1, really struggle on stage 2, and, if they make it, do ok on stage 3. And the ANW specific trainers are just too much of a mixed bag and inconsistent.

I know eventually we'll see a winner but it's gonna be freakin' tough. The courses just keep getting insane. At least the ratings are good so we get one more season at least. :)
