TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Hamm is probably a shoe-in for Best Actor just based on the fact he has 7 noms and hasn't won yet and the show will be over, so he'll finally win it as a summary award for the entire series.

Steve Carell would like to have a word with you.

GoT, Shameless, Newsroom, Homeland etc were all shut out.

Outside of Peter Dinklage, those shows were lucky to even be nominated.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Leftovers continues to cycle between very strong and mildly weak episodes, almost as if the writers are trading off. (If Carrie Coon doesn't win the Emmy for "Guest," the award should be discontinued. That is the most effective television acting I've ever seen.)

The Strain is what it is -- it's not going anywhere, but it's not hard to watch.

Both shows follow the Two Cardinal Rules:

1. Fast forward through any scene with people under 30. (Required in particular for Leftovers, which has a terrible teen sub-arc; could be extended for The Strain with fast forward through any scene with women)

2. Fast forward through any sequence where a husband and wife are talking with no other adults present.

Not comparable. The Office was a trainwreck by the end, whereas Mad Men is still well up there in quality (granted, not at the top of its game).

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I am hoping the best of Mad Men has been saved for last, but I can't help but fear the final episode is going to be an enormous letdown.

Overall, I'd peg most of Season 6 as the low point right now (the only good parts being more of young Don's backstory, and then finally getting b*tchslapped for his drinking). I had seriously feared that ridiculous Roger acid trip in Season 5 was the Shark Jump.

If Mad Men had a shark moment, it was Don marrying Megan. The show definitely changed after that -- it's a matter of taste whether one finds it better or worse. One man's opinion: the show became Too Much Don since then, although that may be in part because one of the show's major legs, Peggy, melted into incoherence. Maybe rather than a shark moment a better comparison is the entrance of Winchester in the 6th season of MASH, driven by a similar unraveling of the dramatic tension provided by Frank and Margaret.

Shows tend to lose their tautness as they continue and MM is no exception. It's still the best drama on television, though that has always been a very low bar.

Agreed on the Leftovers. Last night's episode was painful to watch until the last 15 minutes and even then it wasn't as great as some episodes. Curious what the finale in two weeks will have.

Olbermann is moving to 5PM on ESPN2 and will only be a half hour. It's also reported he will start anchoring Sportscenter again.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

If I've learned anything from this Simpsons marathon, it's that FXX has made some really poor programing choices and I have no interest on watching FXX come Sunday.

Mike & Molly? Ali G? Simpsons episodes in widescreen cut from 4:3 and shortened from their original content?

I have yet to see anything on this channel that entices me to watch after the marathon.

I think "The League" is now on FXX.

And about halfway through the final season of Californication. It's painful at times. Way too many "zoinks" etc horrid attempts at humor. But, I've come this far in the series, I have to see how it ends.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Just starting the Sons of Anarchy pilot episode.

Need to watch all of it by the final season premiere on 9/9.

Wife says it's really good but I suspect that it's partially coz the lead actor is pretty. ;)

Either way, wanna watch this one's final season in real time as I didn't get to do that with Breaking Bad.

EDIT: Brewer game needs to be less interesting so I can concentrate on this.

Don't worry, some of the supporting actresses are also pretty (Zoe Boyle, Sarah Jones, Winter Ave Zoli, Maggie Siff...)

Final season starts Sept 9 (IIRC, that is the exact date). Better get going. And it's a great series.

Edit: the character Otto is also the creator/writer of the show. And he (the writer) might be legitimately insane. As in clinically insane.

JFC

There was a whole crap-ton of awesome in that first ep...

Should be a fun ride.

I was a bit overwhelmed for the first couple of eps, until everything started sorting out and you could really keep track of who's who and what's what.

Grrrreat. Just found out that Levon (Californication), who is a poor man's Jonah Hill....a REALLY REALLY REALLY poor man's Jonah Hill, is in Project X, which is the movie I currently have from Netflix. I hope he's better. By that, I mean sort of tolerable. Like, say, Shia LaBouef tolerable.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Did 4 episodes of SOA last night. Was up till 2:00 and then all wired with weird dreams till the alarm went off at 7:00.

Of yeah, gonna be bingeing on this for sure.

Only like 73 episodes to go in the next 2 weeks!
