Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Just watched the season finale of The Last Ship. TOTALLY enjoyed it and I look forward to its return.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Just finished Californication S7. The last couple of episodes injected more of the serious plot line that fueled the series, which I thought were well-done. They needed more of that balance (although the humor side became more zany and inane, and horrid).

Overall, it was a good, if not cliched, ending. Montage endings are lazy, but I guess you do what you have to do.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

In case you missed it, David Chase gave an interview this week and revealed that Tony Soprano did not die after the screen went to black on The Sopranos.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Based on the first season that I just completed, SOA is shaping up to exceed Breaking Bad.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

It falls off after a few seasons. Some seasons are very good, some are very meh.

Well that first season was a wringer. I'm thoroughly engaged and hooked.

We'll see how it goes from here.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Agreed on the Leftovers. Last night's episode was painful to watch until the last 15 minutes and even then it wasn't as great as some episodes. Curious what the finale in two weeks will have.

I thought Episode 9 was brilliant. Yes, I liked Lost (and I was ok with the ending), and this last Leftovers episode was its most Lost-like, spent entirely in flashback.

The "odd" seasons are overall the best ones IMO, until you get to season 6 (b/c it's a setup to the final season of course). Season 3 is probably my favorite overall. Definitely had the best season-ending episode of the series. /2cents

I think I'd agree with this, but I was probably not as impressed with 6 as you were.

Also, I am fixated on CMT right now. The King is on. Last concert ever. So, so, so good. So grateful I got to see this live last winter.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

If SOA was as good the while time as it was in S2, I might lend more credence to the idea that it's worthy of such lofty praise.

But it wasn't, and I think it might provide some good reasoning to the argument that no good drama with an ongoing storyline should last more than 4-6 seasons (if that)

I know Sutter has said that he could have made last season and this season into 3 total seasons, but he didn't want to "rip off the fans like that." He said he'd rather have the last two seasons have "bloated"/extended episodes and be done after 7 total seasons.

Labor Day weekend Dr. Mrs. Kepler and I binge watched Tyrant up to the present. It's not bad, particularly if you observe the two cardinal rules of TV.

We tried out Rectify but look, I'm sure it's wonderful drama, but I just... didn't... care... about anything they were selling.

particularly if you observe the two cardinal rules of TV.

1. Suspend all disbelief to the best of your ability (this is close to impossible with 80+% of TV dramas, and part of what makes the vast majority of Mad Men so refreshingly watchable)

2. ???

Those are different rules.

The TV rules are:

1. Fast forward through kids*
2. Fast forward through couples

* kids are defined as anyone under thirty
