Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

I'm sure it's scary for criminals. Good on the new gun owners and may they use them safely and have a lot of fun doing so. Lot of folks thinks guns are scary then once they start shooting realize how much fun they are.

These customers scare the crap out of me.

We had a guy come in who needed "regular shells" for his Mossberg. I tried asking what kind of shooting the guy was doing and what kind of Mossberg he had. The answer was "a Mossberg" and he flipped out at me for asking questions about what kind of shooting he was doing. The guy wanted no explanation for the differences in the 100's of shells we carry. He responded with " I just want to point the gun and shoot anyone that comes into my house". The customer was noticeably agitated by this point. He said that he just wanted his shells and to be left alone. I pointed at the home defense rounds and walked away. The guy proceeded to pick the cheapest rounds he saw and left.

This was someone that had zero clue about the firearm he owned. Odds are he had no safety training and has no respect for the firearm. I'm all for owning a gun, but the above situation is a disaster and an accident waiting to happen.

The great thing about our wonderful country is we have the choice, most people aren't so lucky. I certainly respect your decision not to have them if that makes you feel safer.

It's not a feeling of being safer, it's actually being safer.

and the North
and the East
and the West.
:(

not your neighbors, huh?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that DV correlates highly with people who believe they have a magically-granted dominion over their household.

There is DV everywhere, certainly, but to a certain turn of mind it's just frontier justice at the hearth.

I'm fine with these people if they stay in their house. More than fine. They're doing Darwin's work.

So I must be that "other" customer. ;)

I went in the other day looking for 180 grain .40 S&W because I was going to have a friendly range competition with a friend and my Springfield XDM Compact fires more accurately with the heavier projectile (compared to 165 grain). But don't give me that Remington "green box" crap. It's too dirty. And I don't want Hornady JHP PD rounds for poking holes in paper. I'll slum as low as Winchester "white box". So whatcha got? :)

But I've got one worse than your customer: We had a guy show up at the range the other day with his new pistol for training. The FFL dealer who sold him the pistol sold him a box of the wrong ammo (sent a box of .40 S&W for a 9MM) with it! < facepalm >

Not only do we have the choice, but our enemies fear attacking us because of it. That's why they go for remote islands or "gun-free zones". That's also why the government has to tread their tyrannical happenings very carefully: 1776 could happen all over again.

Too full from lunch to take in this word salad.

The guy might just be socially awkward or maybe a lib who was embarrassed about buying shells. Hopefully most of these people realize gun owners are a friendly lot who are more than happy to help.

I'm not dissing gun owners. Just commenting that the past 18 months have brought a lot of people into the world of gun ownership. And among that crowd there are many people that you wouldn't want anywhere near you with their weapon. It's a stupidity problem and that's it.

It's people from BOTH the Left and Right in this group. It's just that the people from the Left have come in within the last two weeks.

Yes, it must be a "lib."

This is the reason it would not be a bad idea for more educated people to start learning about guns. The default assumptions about gun owners are too often true. Particularly those made by gun owners.

The other reason is we will never have sane gun control as long as guns are seen by the right as their own private fetish. The way to depoliticize guns is to demystify them in the eyes of responsible citizens. Currently, liberals arguing about guns are too much like conservatives arguing about science: their ignorance breeds both contempt and contemptuousness.

Liberals don't own guns and conservatives don't know anything about science, learned 2 things today

Sorry but there is science on guns, and it is ignored by conservatives just like other science is. Science says more guns make society more dangerous. Period. Anecdotes say they can make you safer, just like anecdotes say it's getting colder.

Yeah, I went to buy shells from a retail store this year for the first time in my life. I was super embarrassed to ask questions. I knew most of the specs that I wanted, but there were a couple that I didn't. I ended up getting the right ones through deductive reasoning. I only bought them because we couldn't buy shells from the clubhouse like I always do. Decided to buy a case so that we could reduce cost to the group.

Yeah, good thing 9/11 never happened, thanks to all those scary gunowners here in the US, terrifying them Moozlim hordes.

Do you even think before writing any of your chit?

It was what I thought a pretty obvious joke. Sorry it wasn't more clear though. Contrary to popular belief not all gun owners are idiots and even highly educated folk can enjoy shooting.
