Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Well, I guess the fact that they have a football stadium with a pirate ship in it is pretty cool.

Plus I gather they have a lot of strip clubs, which means even MNS has a chance to see some boobs!

Tampa's not bad, actually. 2012's FF will be pretty *king good.

And quit trying to inject logic into Brent's arguments. He doesn't know how to deal with that! :D

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

I just saw the word "{PROVICED" in a patent application.

Well, OK, it was "provided" with a typo, but it still made me laugh.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Denver has a better downtown area within walking distance of the arena. There isn't a whole *'ing lot near the X other than a handful of bars. It's a shame that St. Paul isn't as built up in that area as downtown Minneapolis is - if it was, the fan experience would be vastly improved between / before / after the games. Instead, you'll have a bunch of people hopping in cabs / rental cars driving over to Minneapolis. Sadly, the light rail expansion is years away and won't be in place for this tournament.

True. But they are working on it. I think that's part of the bigger plan for the old GPL tailgate lot that McGovern's bought. I bet they're gonna expand or something in the next couple years.

I'm pretty sure many will be staying in hotels on the Mpls side anyway, I dunno how many hotels are within walking distance besides the two right there at the X.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

The X has been there a few years now - you'd think that the area around there would be more built up than it is - and yet it isn't. It makes it rather frustrating between games when there's not a lot of variety of places to go - so the same five places are completely packed.

Trouble is with the fabric of the city. It was/is known for its neighborhood bars, and that's tough to change, while Minneapolis is trying to be the midwestern NY or a "we're as good as Chicago" sort of city.

Minneapolis has a long ways to go to be as expensive as NYC if that's what they're going for - but they are certainly on par with them in terms of all the *'ing theaters.

St. Paul can have all the neighborhood bars they want - they can still do something about their downtown area.

1. I'm talking amount of higher-end clubs/bars, etc. It's a sad effort, but they still try.

2. That's the thing: they don't care about a downtown. That's not neighborhood-y enough.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

I know, but they're a bunch of drunk micks.
Maybe so, but what's stopping the sober businessmen from moving into the area and building a high capacity bar/restaurant to accommodate the X crowds? Between the Wild, the state tourneys, the F5, the occasional regional / F4, and all the *'ing concerts, you'd think somebody would be all over this.

Actually getting the properties. I have a feeling that the owners of certain key properties like it the way it is. There's so much potential, but so many older ways of doing things there.

There's not really a lot of open land, honestly, between parking lots, that hospital, the History and Science museums, the RiverCentre itself and faceless skyscrapers behind the Xcel.

They need to rid themselves of the "Safe Place" and build a bar there.

Perfect location.
