TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

700+ miles roundtrip = $80 gas
Two tickets = $30 (I think they were $15 apiece for tInvasion)
Food/drinks = $50+
Total = $160+ (or $100+ if your share of gas is $20)

Cost of a Gopher ticket = around $40
Cost of parking for a Gopher game = $10 (less if you park further away)

So total cost for two games here vs a weekend there is a push - maybe even cheaper staying here. And there's no such thing as a decent fooper. :p

Uh, under the "food/drinks" category, I would be eating and drinking for Gopher games here also. Ever hear of "Sally's?" So you can take that out. And $80 in gas? If it wasn't split, maybe. I think it came out to about $50 each when we went last time.

And what MNS said about "decent Foopers."

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Even the hot one you just invited to the Kremlin Bar in tLodge? :p
She's indecent. That's why she's invited.

Brent, there's also the time committment. The drive itself is ~7 hours each way. That's 14 hours you aren't doing anything but sitting in a *'ing car.

Going to the UP = taking a full day off.

Going to a Gopher game (friday) = taking a half day.

All this must be taken into consideration in comparing costs.

Uh, it was 6 hours at most one way this last time. Gave us time to watch "An Evening With Kevin Smith." All of it. That's worth sitting in a nice Suburban for a trip like that. :p

And I can't get a suite at the Mooch. A suite that serves beer. Unlike the Mooch.

Finally, there's just that something extra when a bunch of Minnesotans take over a bar in foreign territory.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

That territory isn't worth taking over.

We only temporarily camp there and take advantage of their cheap booze and food. :p

Now, don't get me wrong: the UP is a craphole. It's only slightly better than WI, and on par with North Dakota.

I'm just saying that when it's MN visiting there for a series, due to the people involved, it's passable as a road trip worth taking, if only to see how good we have it here. :D

You're not considering the fact that you're spending ~10 hours driving that could be spent doing something more interesting. Also, if you're roadtripping you basically have to buy your food at restaurants, but if you're seeing a game near where you live you can go to the grocery store and spend a lot less.

And also, if you don't spend your money taking trips to crapholes like Houghton, you can go to the god**** Frozen Four. :p

Houghton... Detroit... Houghton... Detroit...

If I didn't live in the Detroit metro area, I'd pick Houghton over the F4 this year, too.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

You know the Frozen Four is in a craphole this year right? :p
It's in a craphole next year too but he's going to that one. Other than DC, that's where the last few have been and the next few will be. :p

Edit to add: OK, Denver is pretty nice.

Re: TRP: These Ides Have Seen A Lot Of Loves...

Is Tampa a craphole? At least the weather should be nice for that one.

Denver is pretty much the same as MPLS/St Paul, except swap mountains for lakes. :p

Well, I guess the fact that they have a football stadium with a pirate ship in it is pretty cool.

Plus I gather they have a lot of strip clubs, which means even MNS has a chance to see some boobs!

Tampa is great. There's a beach nearby. There's an amusement park. What's not to like?

Maybe I'm just biased because for the Outback Bowl we had a hotel on the beach and lots of free time (even got to see a Lightning game). Best bowl trip ever! (you know, back when Michigan had a football team that went to bowl games)

Denver has a better downtown area within walking distance of the arena. There isn't a whole *'ing lot near the X other than a handful of bars. It's a shame that St. Paul isn't as built up in that area as downtown Minneapolis is - if it was, the fan experience would be vastly improved between / before / after the games. Instead, you'll have a bunch of people hopping in cabs / rental cars driving over to Minneapolis. Sadly, the light rail expansion is years away and won't be in place for this tournament.

Ooh, tell us more about what that was like, Grandma!
