The 3 iron laws of Vegas: stay at the Luxor, watch women at the Bellagio, keep your money in your pocket.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

I think MGM's pool area is better than Mandalay Bay's. MB has that "beach." It gets very crowded and noisy/crazy. MGM has five pools, one of them is a "quiet" pool (no kids). Plus they have a lazy river. JMHO. I'll admit, I'm partial to the MGM. I've stayed there several times. Stayed at MD twice. The second time it was not good. Too loud. had to call security on the room next to us.

roger that. Plus, I know they have a topless pool. Giggidy. :) I'll e-mail you for some info, Scarlet. :)

1. But don't gamble there
2. Go to the Bellagio to gamble. That's it
3. Don't ever bet the don't pass line

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

If it helps, my bro has been a mechanic for juuuuuust shy of 15 years now. He's 32, turns 33 in August. His first day was literally on his 18th birthday (Tires Plus; hey, ya gotta start somewhere) and within 2 years a couple dealerships basically said "name your price." :)

I'm really proud he found something he was really good at, and enjoys. I imagine that in a few years, he'll be the guy who takes apart and puts together an engine for fun. On his lunch break.
If he's good he will always be in demand. A friend of mine is a Service Manager at a dealership and has been complaining that the young kids can't do anything and the only decent mechanics he can find are older ones.

do we want to stay at Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand in December?
I hated MGM, but now that I think about it, I was last there about 15 years ago.

I believe tcbg's ex-bro-in-law is that with Honda. We went to see him a few months ago and he was taking apart and cleaning each part of a Civic engine. I'd never seen the inside of the engine before so I was fascinated as he pulled it apart. I even got to touch a piston.
Yes, he's with Honda. Think about it, have you EVER seen any of us driving a Toyota?!? :D

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

here's the gameplan. We're getting in Saturday morning, the 4th of December. Probably screw around at the pool and gamble a little bit that afternoon. Morning of the 5th, we're gonna run the 1/2 marathon. Later that day, rest and relax by the pool. The night of the 5th, go to a show, probably Phantom or Blue Man. On the 6th, we're bugging out.

I think we'll just do MGM. I hate gambling there, but it's a short walk to where I want to gamble, so no big deal there.

The only problem I have with the Mandalay Bay is its location. So I agree with your decision.

For your show, check out Cirque du Soleil. MGM has a permanent CdS show that's pretty cool, and if you're a guest at the hotel you can get reduced rate tickets.

we're considering it. Cirque is #3 on our list. We'd both like to see Phantom.

One benefit of MGM is the mechanical horsies. :)

:o My parents are letting me have a car starting Labor Day (it's theirs but they've been lending it out to us kids as we need it). It's a Toyota. :p

This. There are several in Vegas that are permanent exhibitions.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Quiz wants to stay somewhere with awesome pools. Keep in mind we're going out there for a 1/2 marathon. Mandalay Bay has good pools and whatnot. Keep in mind, I've only slept on the strip one time, and that was with a cougar. :D

My favorite place to gamble is Planet Hollywood. Love their poker room, love playing craps there, etc. Otherwise, I'll head to Barbary Coast. It's cheap, the decor is crappy, but it's a lot of fun. Right across the street from Ballys.

MGM is good for the sports book. That's it.
Are the pools even open in December? When I was there in February the pool at the Monte Carlo was not.

Ka. We went to that one when we were there. Pretty cool show.
