TRP: More metal than your mother

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Wheeee. $850 later, my Jeep is almost 100%. Just a few minor things need to be done now. It woulda been about $1400 I think my brother said, if I actually let a regular mechanic look at it. My brother would have charged no labor, but I insisted on paying him some dough.

Of course, it's still $850 that I rather I didn't have to spend.

And since I dropped off my car at his place of work, I drove his car to my work. A wonderful little crapbox called a Hyundai Accent. It's like a friggin' Matchbox car.

And DHBoss nitpicked some of my work today. * him. They had the other guy in my area today, and he fell behind within an hour. They put me back in there, and not only did I get my sh* done, I was able to help others out, too.
If you ever need a replacement vehicle for a while you can borrow my jeep. ;)

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

I'd let you borrow my old Cherokee, if you could drive a stick shift. :p

Funny thing. Told my bro that if my buddy (that'd be you) ever needed some work done, I'd tell (you) to go through (my brother).

First thing he said about old-arse Cherokees: we (mechanics) just tear out the electrical system. 99% of the time, that's the problem. They are difficult to maintain after a while. :p

He's almost always up for sidework. He likes the experience (either because he enjoys it or he might learn something new) and well, it's probably cheaper than going to some other mechanic on the clock.

No problems with that Jeep right now - well, except that the fog lights don't work. Nor does the A/C, but that's just leaky. And the cruise control is a little... weird. (it doesn't engage unless you press the ON button in a particular way, and will very occasionally not disengage until you shift out of gear )

But, I'll let you know if I need some minor/major work done.

If it helps, my bro has been a mechanic for juuuuuust shy of 15 years now. He's 32, turns 33 in August. His first day was literally on his 18th birthday (Tires Plus; hey, ya gotta start somewhere) and within 2 years a couple dealerships basically said "name your price." :)

I'm really proud he found something he was really good at, and enjoys. I imagine that in a few years, he'll be the guy who takes apart and puts together an engine for fun. On his lunch break.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

do we want to stay at Mandalay Bay or MGM Grand in December?

MGM isn't terrible. Rooms as low as $99 a night in December. Plus you're right next to New York New York, which is awesome. Don't know about Mandalay.

NY NY made me wanna puke.

Gimme classy Vegas. Not Disney World.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

Mandalay is a really nice casino, but MGM would be a bit more central if you don't mind navigating a maze of a building.

And Brent is right, don't go to the theme hotels unless you just want to walk through and have a good laugh at the pristine, faux-streetscapes, or if there's a particular restaurant you really want to eat at.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

MGM Grand would be closer to the middle of The Strip, and is pretty nice. Didn't go to Mandalay Bay while I was there in February.

We basically stayed in 3 spots: Mandelay, Bellagio, and Luxor (where our room was at).

Crap casinos I was unimpressed with: NY NY, MGM, Excalibur, and Treasure Island.

Good casinos: Luxor, Mirage

Great casinos: Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Venetian

Going by decor, atmosphere, style of clientele, gambling, etc etc.

Roast of Shatner on CC uncensored right now.

"When they told me there was going to be a grand entrance of someone coming on a horse, I thought, "Man, they're going to let Andy Dick and Lisa Lampaelli get away with murder, aren't they?"" :D

I believe tcbg's ex-bro-in-law is that with Honda. We went to see him a few months ago and he was taking apart and cleaning each part of a Civic engine. I'd never seen the inside of the engine before so I was fascinated as he pulled it apart. I even got to touch a piston.

Quiz wants to stay somewhere with awesome pools. Keep in mind we're going out there for a 1/2 marathon. Mandalay Bay has good pools and whatnot. Keep in mind, I've only slept on the strip one time, and that was with a cougar. :D

My favorite place to gamble is Planet Hollywood. Love their poker room, love playing craps there, etc. Otherwise, I'll head to Barbary Coast. It's cheap, the decor is crappy, but it's a lot of fun. Right across the street from Ballys.

MGM is good for the sports book. That's it.

Re: TRP: More metal than your mother

I think MGM's pool area is better than Mandalay Bay's. MB has that "beach." It gets very crowded and noisy/crazy. MGM has five pools, one of them is a "quiet" pool (no kids). Plus they have a lazy river. JMHO. I'll admit, I'm partial to the MGM. I've stayed there several times. Stayed at MD twice. The second time it was not good. Too loud. had to call security on the room next to us.
