TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

There are more than 3. Denmark counts!
Huh. I've never considered it part of Scandinavia or heard it mentioned as such. Same goes for Iceland (which after looking this up on the 'net is also part of "scandinavia").

I suppose this is like talking about the WCHA and completely ignoring teams like UAA. Sure, they're technically part of the league, but what's the point of mentioning them when they are rarely anywhere near being a top tier team? :p

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Denmark is more a part of Scandihovia than Finland. Sweden, Norway and Denmark are always considered a part of Scandinavia. Finland and Iceland are sometimes considered a part of it.

This sounds correct to me. Look at the linguistic similarities between Norwegian and Swedish and Danish, vs. how Icelandic and Finnish differ. (Seriously, where does Finnish even come from? It's not anything like Russian either.) Also look at where the most heavily populated areas of Norway and Sweden are: down near Denmark. (Heck, the third-biggest city in Sweden is basically part of the Copenhagen metropolitan area.) But I'm not of Scandinavian descent like all your folks from flyover country, so what do I know? :p

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Norway, Sweden, Denmark. Finland is more Eastern European, and Iceland's people are descendants of the Vikings and the Irish.

Finnish is only related to two other languages in the world, Estonian and Hungarian.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I'm part Finn. ****, I got all three scandinavian countries covered, actually.

so am I. I can toss Denmark in there too.

I have:

Sweden
Finland
Norway
Denmark
Germany
Poland
Russia
Czech Republic
and possibly some Native American...

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

1/4 Swede
1/4 Scot
1/4 Slovak

The other quarter is Danish, German, French, and Irish. My maternal grandmother was a mutt, so therefore I am as well.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

3/4 Polish, the remaining part we think is mostly German with a small English line thrown in there. Both my dad's parents and my maternal grandmother are 100% Polish (and consequently so is my father), basically anything non-Polish came from my maternal grandfather's family, and we don't know much about them.
I'm also only the 4th generation American on my Dad's side--all the great-grandparents came over around the same time around WWI.
What I'm saying is I think I'm the one white person in Minnesota that doesn't have some kind of Scandinavian/Nordic background.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

and possibly some Native American...

Some fighting Sioux?

'Diva, I believe the Germans still outnumber us Scandahovians in MN.

I am 1/2 Norsk on my dad's side, Irish and French Canadian on my mom's side.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

100% Scandinavian! 50% Swede, 50% Norwegian. I kick ***.

Is that legal? I thought mixed marriages were still banned in this state.

So in church Ole says to Lena "I yust farted and it vas silent but real stinky. Vat do you tink I should do?" Lena says "I tink you should replace da battry in your hearing aid!"

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I'm American. All you foreigners should go back to wherever it is you came from. ;)

(Mainly Russia, Romania, Ukraine, and generally dating back to my great-great grandparents as far as I'm aware. One of my maternal grandfather's grandfathers was of German descent and fought in the Civil War, so presumably that part of the family dates back at least one more generation. And they were Christians, incidentally, so I am not entirely MOT. Who knew? My mom actually somehow found a newspaper clipping about that great-great-grandfather's widow having some dispute with the government over his military pension, I don't remember the details entirely.)

(On the other hand, while I'm not entirely MOT, I AM entirely Jersey; my mother's family has lived there for at least ~120 years, and while my father grew up in New York, both of his parents and his grandparents lived in Jersey before they moved into the city and eventually out to Long Island. *fist pump* :D)

Mom's side - British/Irish. In fact, I saw mom's family tree once, and one of my great uncles had taken it all the way back to the colonists in the early 1600s.

Dad's side - Czech or possibly southern Polish. Last name supposedly could be either.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

Irish, Norwegian, some British, and some Romanian, that I know of. Mainly the first two.

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

50% German
25% Norwegian
The rest is a motley mix of Bohemian/Czech and a bunch of others I don't remember.

Eastern and Western Europe unite!

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

In addition to direct lineage to Bach (he would be my great-great-great-great-great uncle) we also have Chicago mafia, Czech royalty, and my dad who is angry and hateful

Re: TRP: Alcohol-Induced Impotence

I know my family can trace back to the Mayflower (my dad's side), and I think it was my great aunt who was 100% Gypsy (as in the ethnic group).
