Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I think it's time to stop referring to Hardword #1 and Hardword #2 as "suspects." This punctilious adherence to "innocent 'till proven guilty" by the media becomes a maddening verbal tic at this point. Nobody's gonna sue anybody, nobody's gonna have their press credentials revoked by referring to these two as "terrorists" or "bombers" or whatever.

In an earlier age would our media have referred to Heinrich Himmler as the "alleged" author of the Holocaust?

I've been calling them Thing 1 & Thing 2.

That works. I can't get the image of that punk walking away from the bomb he's just set down a few feet from Martin Richard out of my head. A smiling, happy, doomed 8-year old. I just can't.

His little sister wakes up in a hospital bed. And daddy tells her she's lost a leg, she'll never see her big brother again and mommy may never be the same. God give me strength.

Most haunting image I've seen, pretty much ever.

Plus, once again, the banality of evil. Thing 2 is a pleasant looking young man, whom you might see at any of our hockey games. No horns. No tail. No glow in the dark. Just an average college kid. Yet behind that face plate. . . . . . .

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

On the scenes reporter sounds frantic. Reports of explosions and blood found.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I was watching that live today. I couldn't believe I had heard it.

Here's another annoying verbal tic that's been on nearly continuous display all week: anchor people expressing sympathy to individuals or communities touched by the big stories they've been reporting. I suppose it's possible anchors could say: "I've got a job to do here, I don't give a sh*t what's happened to you guys, I'm just reporting the news." I mean, showing some empathy is appropriate. But it seems like they've been spreading it pretty thick.

Firing gas into a boat?

Also shooting dummy rounds (unless that's the same thing).

"no officers should fire unless fired upon"

Sounds pretty intense and like they want to take him alive.

I'm not big into amateur psychology. But wouldn't the loss of his big brother make him more likely to kill himself? Or suicide by cop?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Two dozen gun shots reported!! If it's our boy, what are the odds he survives?
Not much

NBC is showing the area where the shots were fired, must be 50 cop cars that just went thru.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Regular cops backing up. All tactical teams from here on in.

DoD is on scene via scanner.

There is a family in the basement of the house where this is going down.

Looking at the possible yard via google maps and you can see the boat trailer.

He is still moving his legs.
