Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

And despite the officer's advice/plea, if I ran into this guy, positively ID'd him, and I was legally armed.....that guy is going down. I'll call 911 after I shoot.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I apologize for trivializing in the midst of this shocking story: but those MA state police hats look like they were designed by Gilbert & Sullivan. The cowboy hats of the Texas DPS in West, Texas are way cooler.

The Staties and Philly PD wear what we used to call "40-mission hats."

It was a style worn by our traffic officers -- when I transferred into a traffic unit I found out how to make one. Took a wire coat hanger, slid it through the plastic tubing that was around the inside of the forage cap, and then bent it to shape.

But the Stetson is waay cooler!

No doubt. For sure, this dude would start shooting as soon as he saw you .

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I'm leaning toward the latter.

Me too. Despite whatever "intelligence" we might get from waterboarding his worthless a*s, it'll be much better for that national psyche if we can produce his body. Think back to putting Uday and Qusay Hussein on display. "Well, that settles, that."

Pretty much. If this was part of a larger group, my guess is that he's dead already. If he's alone, he'll either hide or off himself in the wilderness somewhere.

I'm thinking the older brother got radicalized on his trip back home to see daddy. And older brother radicalized younger brother, who doubtless looked up to him. There is a world wide Islamist underground. Loose affiliations, overlapping membership, united in just one thing: killing Americans.

That's what's scary. It appears to be simply a couple nutty people, as opposed to an organized group. I'd rather face an organization than a couple individuals. Organizations are a bit more predictable.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I think it's time to stop referring to Hardword #1 and Hardword #2 as "suspects." This punctilious adherence to "innocent 'till proven guilty" by the media becomes a maddening verbal tic at this point. Nobody's gonna sue anybody, nobody's gonna have their press credentials revoked by referring to these two as "terrorists" or "bombers" or whatever.

In an earlier age would our media have referred to Heinrich Himmler as the "alleged" author of the Holocaust?

"Thank you sir, may I have another?"

And the fact that these two are brothers makes them even harder to detect. As I say, we've been both good and lucky in stopping attacks since 9/11. If (and it's a big if) there is now going to be an effort to attack soft targets, we're going to have to get much better, quicker.
