Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

They're all in a tough spot. I can't exactly begrudge family members for not coming to grips with it in the face of everything going on.

One or more members of that family has probably gotten truncheon massages from the KGB (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) over the years. Those Muslim areas of the old Soviet Union have been a charnel house of violence. Hideous. Head chopping. Throat slitting violence. Ex-KGB honcho Putin campaigned on not allowing them their independence. And has imposed extremely brutal control. For those reasons alone, it's not likely the father's thinking is going to be clear on these events.

Confirming 15 officers injured (minor injuries) last night. JFC.

I say again: This is the G*d D*amndest story I've ever encountered. Bonnie and Clyde meets Jason Bourne. How 'bout the detail that Hardword #2 ran over his brother in making his escape?

That "15" number was initially bandied about last night, but no one wanted to really "officially" report it, due to all the other mis-information that came out this week. One can only hope that this week has a permanent impact on the "first to report" mentality in the news media.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

also odd. 14 dead in texas and I haven't heard a single word on it from tv news. its like it didn't happen.

There was so much sh*t being reported last night, it was hard for me to believe it was true. 15 cops hurt? Running gun battle? Hand grenades? Car jacking? 7/11 robbed? Two black guys? MIT officer killed? Transit cop critically wounded? Suspect stripped and arrested? Suspect killed? Suspect still on the loose? Any two of those would make the story a BFD.

I'm ambivalent about the "first to report" mentality. For sure, they can and should do a better job of verifying. In AF basic training, when it came to rumors we were told (I kid you not) to ask: "What latrine did you get that out of." I am not making that up. And maybe that's a guideline that the media should apply. CNN significantly redeemed its "they've made an arrest" gaffe from earlier in the week by being way out in front of last night's events. Having Jake Tapper anchoring their overnight coverage gave them enormous credibility.

On the other hand, as this story unfolded last night, it took on a theatrical, unbelievable air. This shiza couldn't be happening, nobody would believe it. Except it did happen.

Regardless of what was reported when last night, it was perfectly obvious that something very big was going down given the many agencies (including the Feebs) involved. You simply don't go into an enormous, interagency full court press for a cop killer.

To the best of my knowledge, we've never seen anything like this before. Maybe hunting down the 30's gangsters (Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Dillinger, etc) comes the closest. Certainly most of us have never seen anything like this before.

Agreed. What unfolded was quite amazing. We've seen odd stuff before (OJ chase, Waco, Jim Jones cult, DC Sniper), but this.....this is astounding.

And this CNN guy totally reminds me of goldy331 in appearance. :D

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I apologize for trivializing in the midst of this shocking story: but those MA state police hats look like they were designed by Gilbert & Sullivan. The cowboy hats of the Texas DPS in West, Texas are way cooler.

In 24 hours this has gone from a Michael Bay CGIgasm to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Somebody throw a pie.

What is the condition that puts Menino in a wheel chair? Permanent? Temporary?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

So the lockdown is over, we can go out? What does that say? He's not in the area?

I know these law enforcement people have been tirelessly working trying to find this guy but I want more info than this. What was all that drama in Watertown this morning? The one where they made the media shut things down. I get that the investigation is ongoing but is it not feasible to let us know what had happened?

Eh, I'm going to go back watching my dvr'd shows.

The story is that the suspect is still "plugged in" (especially to social media) so there was urging to not comment about procedures of the investigation/etc, so as not to tip him off. That, and any new info seems to have been verified umpteen times, so it can be reported as truth, and not speculation.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

200 shots and explosives in that gun battle last night? Remember the scene in the new "Taking of Pelham 1,2,3" where Travolta's two accomplices are cut to ribbons by NYPD? Sounds pretty similar.

The takeaway from this news conference: He's gotten away! Either that or he's dead under somebody's porch.

If nothing happens by the end of this weekend, suspect is either gone off to some remote area/country never to be found, or he's dead somewhere, never to be found. IMO.

With 200 rounds expended in a fire fight, it's not exactly out of the question that he took a round. As the most hunted guy since Andrew Cunanan, it's not likey he'd head to "Doc in a Box" for a little care.

Newtown wife to husband: "Honey, what's that smell?"
