Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I saw a few tweets about a shooting at MIT around 12:30ish and figured it was unrelated. Woke up at 7 and thought, "Weird, I have a lot of unread tweets for being overnight".

We really need less testimonial from HS classmates and more crazy relatives.

Oh, I understand all that. Not to mention none of us has any idea what it's like to actually be in a situation like that.

But, it never stops me from shouting out, "SHOOT THE TIRES OUT!" :D

[And onto a separate joke, doesn't it disturb anyone that the Army shooting team doesn't win the NCAA championships every year?]

As somebody who shot competitively at the NCAA level (for a small school with no chance of ever competing for a championship), absolutely not. Completely different discipline of shooting. Army's rifle team shooters are some of the best in the country, but there are several other teams who have shooters just as accomplished.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Yeah. Barely, but that was because of the two feet of heart attack snow at the end of my driveway. Not fun shoveling that crap on three hours of sleep.

Geez. I hope they told you the 11 herbs and spices or the formula for Coke when you got there.

It basically went (from our perspective):

Shooting at MIT. Great, another nutjob.
Huh, little to report, maybe a hoax?
Nope, it happened. They have the shooter cornered.
OMGWTeFFBBQ! GRENADES FROM CARS! HIGH SPEED CHASE!

And you my friend are what we call a buzzkill... :D

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

No. Can't do it.

Made the mistake of Googling the images from Monday. They are uncensored and I can't un-see them.

Seeing that cocky, smirking, psychopath sauntering away makes me want to grab a handful of his neck.

The chase is reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde.

At one point the police scanner had this attributed to a couple of "black" youths. Then it was gang related. Then there were reports of a cop car and gun being stolen. Then we found out the MIT cop died. Then off in Watertown there was a report of a high speed chase with grenades being lobbed out the windows. Then it all started to come together in truly epic fashion. I've never in my life seen anything like this.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

I was driving again, in the last hour, I heard on the radio (Fox News Radio) that someone found out that the younger suspect was let into the country because he was seeking asylum (sp?), then he got a green card, and after that was part of naturalization ceremony, to become a citizen on Sept. 11 of last year. My god.

Finally, OJ's Bronco has been outdone...

Well, of course it was "black guys" who robbed the 7/11. It's called the Susan Smith Corollary.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

Police have found the car in question. No further update yet.

Re: Trouble at Boston Marathon?

At the risk of running afoul of the keepers of PC, are these guys Muslim? That seems to be the relevant variable in [many of] these cases. Lots of people have unorthodox views, only a microscopic percentage of them go "postal."

um, seems to me that a tendency to the fanatical is the common thread, across all relgions and even among the secular creeds too. We could throw up plenty of counter-examples if you want to discuss elsewhere.

If this guy were smart, he'd surrender and take a plea bargain, and be out in twenty years, at which time he can become an assistant professor at Columbia, if you can figure out my oblique reference there.

Yeesh, I'm going to wait to put much faith into this. This could get politically ugly (let us all avoid any debates on this in this thread so it isn't deleted, I think I'm going to want to reread this thread when it's all over) in the coming months...

I didn't mean any political implications in that, I just heard it on the radio and thought it would be of interest.

Is this what happened to one of the Black Panthers?

No, I know. I was hoping to ward off any replies that waded into that territory. SOrry about that. :o
