Travel 4: All Around the World Same Song

There are good and bad Broadways, and Handy is right that the best is the old one attached to the Eagles Nest Lounge in Robbinsdale, at the end of a strip mall. Parkway Pizza is another chain, but smaller at only four locations. I like them as well.

Also, my recommendation of Subway was very sarcastic.

My infatuation with Broadway is probably wrapped up in nostalgia. The one in Coon Rapids that turned into a bar (The Well) was awesome. So many great memories in that place. It moved across University Avenue into Fridley and has never been as good.

Sorry, unofan. We are well off topic now. But it really is your fault. You asked Minnesotans to discuss food. If you really want things to go off the rails ask about the weather next.

I'll be honest, all of these posts about pizza is making me freaking hungry.

Is Fat Lorenzo's still open, over by Nokomis. Man, I used to love to go to that place.

I am with you except this. There is only one acceptable Broadway (since the original closed) and that is the one in Robbinsdale. That has the original recipe for pizza. The rest of the stores have cheap knock offs that taste nothing like the original. Very similar to how Red's Savoy was back in the day...

I guess I assumed they were pretty similar. I'll have to try the Robbinsdale one.

Ah, yeah I had a similar experience. There are reasons for that too...but yeah they pretended the Pandemic was why they closed but the quality went down. Too bad, the first time I went there I was very impressed!

That first time man... It was insanely good. I figured it was basically setting them up for something big. Then, it just went to absolute shit.

The bill I had there on my second vist, excluding the birthday bourbons we bought, was more than any of my Spoon & Stable bills including drinks and tip. I'm pretty sure that was for my now wife's birthday the first year we were dating. I remember looking at that bill, screaming in my head, and quietly putting my credit card in the bill holder.

Tasty Pizza was the similar. There was always the original and then there were the franchises. It just never quite matched up to the original growing up.

Dr. Mrs. and I have chosen our 20th anniversary trip: the Smithsonian cruise of the Baltic. If anybody has any advice or stories from Stockholm, Gotland, Talin, Lithuania, or Helsinki, please post it. Thanks!

I can certainly post a few Helsinki things including walking food tour (which I think is best way to see a city)

Awesome, thank you!

We are also going to Gdansk, and meeting Lech Walesa cuz apparently that's what he does with his time, now. For $20k/person he should blow me.

Gdansk is quite alright- I was there at the worst time of year for weather but would like to go back someday. Well, maybe not, I’ve had enough of Poland I think.

I have yet to visit the Ojczyzna, but my impression is that it's still very Catholic, and all that entails (mainly institutional misogyny). I'm white, blonde, blue-eyed, male, and have Polish Resting Face, so with all that privilege I'm sure I'll be mistaken for someone's brother.

Poland is if Russia's malevolent rightwing Christian stupidity was Roman Catholic, not Orthodox.

Haven’t been so I have no recommendations. Swedish relatives still somewhere around Osthammar, which is North of Stockholm and has a great name. Decent percentage of the the wife’s family is Lithuanian, but went to RSA during a certain period of Russia’s history. (Think Fiddler on the Roof)
