Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

I'd say 'no'
The house might be "fairly full" but you will get a seat. It might have to be a reserved seat at a whopping $6, but you will get in.

Still shaking my head about that Vallorani goal. The guy is a wizard with the puck in that situation.

Wow. A heartbreaker. 3-4 in OT. Somehow there ought to be a rubber match, don't you think? Each team won in OT in the other guy's barn.

Personally, although the Huskies are not satisfied with this result, if they go forward and win the games they should win for the remainder of the season, I'll be satisfied as a fan. If they want to contend in the AHA, they will have to play every game as well as they played the two against Lowell this year. Time to take it to the next step with discipline and determination.

According to the tournament program, the upcoming UConn Classic games are:

2012
MSU - Mankato vs. Brown
AIC vs. UConn

2013
Umass Amherst vs. Quinnipiac
Sacred Heart vs. UConn

Good tournament to win for Lowell. Great response in OT, thanks to some mental mistakes by UConn taking penalties they shouldn't have.

Someone inform Dirty about next year's tournament. Maybe he'll be lucky enough to get his AIC jersey. :D

I will re-iterate that I've been asking for one for longer

... because Dirty is, for some reason, going to be at a tiny tournament in a tiny rink over a thousand miles from where he lives that doesn't include a team he cares about next season?

Help me out with the rationale on this one.

I don't think even Dirty could explain Dirty's rationale. ;)

I know his rationale. I'm trying to understand what AIC being in this tournament next year has to do with his promised jersey.

There was a charity raffle at the tourney this year with the prizes being team-autographed jerseys (I believe one for each team participating in the tournament; RPI's was a Coupal jersey). So pretty much basing the assumption on a sample size of one that they'll do the same next year.

Ah. That makes a little bit more sense now, at least.

I know they've been doing it at least since the 2008-09 tournament (Quinny, Air Force, Merrimack, UConn), and possibly even the tourney before (Army, Ferris State, UConn, Brown). It's therefore a pretty safe bet it will continue.

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

I remember being upset with the 08-09 one because I bought a bunch of tickets the first day hoping to "invest" in the Air Force jersey just to find out they basically just grabbed from the top of the pile which was essentially all second day tickets.

Dick,
I'm hoping the sweep of Niagara indicates that they have taken a step forward. I'm also kind of happy that we seem to be playing a little defense this year. Nice to see Bartus stopping under 40 shots in both wins! Last season He would have had to stop 50 or so.

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Jim, I was really excited about last weekend's result against Niagara. It was indeed a step forward. Now let's see if they can keep moving forward against a team of calibre equal to Niagara away on their ice. UConn has some nice size, they can really bang, their work rate is right up there, they have great goaltending, and they have some snipers. What else is required other than winning one shift at a time, every shift, and playing unselfishly like a real team? They can really make some big big noise in the AHA if they continue to do that. Now they just have to execute.

My opinion is that defensively, they still need a lot of work. Bartus just sees far too many shots; his saving grace, no pun intended, is that he turns a lot of likely goals into saves.

And although I've only seen four games in person (Yale, UML @ Frietas, game 2 v. Niagara, and game 2 v. RIT), I can't say I know for certain what's deficient, because for the most part they're doing the basics right. Shot blocking and puck clearing, probably, are the two biggest improvement needs.

What I think about it, in the long run, is that it means Bartus can't really afford to have a bad game, and especially not against any of the teams they are fighting for position with right now (Canisius, RMU, Holy Cross, Bentley). What's good, though, is that right now, there's a wide band of teams that could reach the top, and UConn is within two solid weekends of doing so.

Yup, we are into the meat of the schedule and now is the time to do it. Pure and simple. The season is riding on it. The good thing is that they have the potential and maybe even the probablity of winning ALL those games if viewed one by one.

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Good start to the weekend for UConn. Let's see if they can bear down, take care of business and close the deal this afternoon. Getting that second win for the weekend on the road is always tough. Gonna be interesting to see if they can do it. It's the time of the season when you gotta bring it every night.

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Impressive weekend for UConn. The fans are starting to believe -- which means the Huskies have to keep winning. Gonna have to figure out how to get to Storrs for two games this next weekend and still ski up north. A pleasant problem to have, however.
