Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

both options are usually pretty bad... UConn tends not to have a souvenir shop (Dobbs, true, right?) and the bookstore has limited amount of anything related to hockey. I'd just duck down into the far end of the GA section and wait for the inevitable... or possibly behind the far net and hope that one pops out on the other side of the glass

Interesting though... I have a UConn game puck but not a Lowell one... again, speaking to the ease of snaring a puck at the respective venues.

The pro shop's been gone for a good number of years, but I don't recall them ever having souvy pucks. I wanna say I've found one at the Co-op while I was undergrad, but I can't say for certain since I haven't been in the bookstore in a while.

So $2 for a ticket ... this will be the cheapest sporting event I've ever been to.

RPI student tickets were $.25 when I started.

Edit: I think that all RPI sports except hockey and football are still free.

OK, I should have said cheapest since I was a student. :)

Ralph, will you be there?

I've paid exactly $0 for a UConn hockey game.

Granted it was the emergency reschedule of last year's home game with Army that had to be moved to the XL Center on a moment's notice because they were worried about the Frietas roof collapsing with the weight of the snow.

pulling student rate

edit: I can't even begin to say how annoyed I am about not being there

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

UConn has a promotional rate for GA tickets. They passed the info on to Scott Donnelly who passed it on to me since I had asked him about tickets.

Who wants to play Pick to Click? That's right! You do!

Choose one player from each team that you think will score gonzo-loads of points and win prizes and fame!

Disclaimer: Prizes and fame not guaranteed. Other restrictions may apply.

Here's a link to the thread and a link to one of the recent posts that has the scoring clarification and the list of ineligible players.

Try $1 per ticket - the $2 promo rate is for BOTH games on a given day ($4 will cover you for the whole tourney). The seating is pretty bad - it's all bleachers and I don't think any are above the top of the glass. The place is on-par with a public rental rink and makes It's a Messa rink look palatial - I stopped by today for public skate to get a look (never been there before).

And if that didn't excite you, it turns out Rene Rancourt is going to be there Thursday to sing the anthem for the 7:00 game.

Lots of things were 25¢ when I first attended RPI-most of those are now collectors items in museums or just now cost a fortune!:) I think an entire pizza in downtown Troy at the Volcano Restaurant was $1.25 then.

Oy! The world's worst voice in a building with mediocre acoustics.

Is it wrong to yell "you suck" at Rancourt?

edit: and I get to miss this **** show? Unfreaking fair.

I don't think anyone has brought this up yet:

Does anyone know if the tournament will be streamed live, either for free or for pay? I would like to watch the games if at all possible.

I have been thinking of driving over from Albany for at least one of the days....and this is trying to make me reconsider. If this venue is so bad, how is it that we can't still have our tourney ?

I need to make one key clarification (my bad) - "none of the General Admission seats are above the glass"... the Reserved seating (ie not the $1 cheap seats) are partially above. I have no idea what the price is for Reserved (behind the player benches) - but it's still bleacher seating - and my sentiment stands that the venue is severely lacking

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Why would you even remotely consider this?

Because I'm tired of hearing him... don't worry folks, I'd like to think I comport myself with more class than that.

Thanks for the clarification. I dont mind the extra money for a decent seat, but would have been severly unhappy looking thru the glass and not being able to see anything. Its a long shot for me to go as it is with the wife and family and have been trying to "sell" as a family bonding trip :rolleyes:

Re: Toyota UConn Holiday Classic (UConn, RPI, UML, Army) 12/29-30

Anyone have anything about the teams? What should Lowell fans expect from RPI tomorrow? I unfortunately won't be able to make it till Friday, but I had been hoping to see LaLiberte play (2-4-6 in 12 games).

UML easily comes in with the best record so far this season at 10-5, and currently fourth in HE. RPI comes in at 3-13, and dead last in the ECAC. Army is 1-8-6 and UConn is 5-9-2 (with a win over Lowell already). Considering that, it's not surprising Lowell has the best GF and GA per game of the the teams in the tournament.
