Tournament Speculation Thread

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

I'm with you - the numbers look close. My question is, given that St. Thomas lost this week to a team ranked below them (St. Olaf)...would they they still keep their #5 ranking to stay in consideration? None of us get to see the "final" ranking that leads to the tourney selection....so I have to wonder if they'd still be in the hunt?

If anything I would say maybe an outside chance but considering that Hobart's last 10 games were against ranked opponents and they were 6-3-1 in that span while St. Thomas played 3 of their last 10 games vs ranked opponents, all being St. Olaf and they went 2-1-0 in that span, I would guess it would be difficult to put St. Thomas in before Hobart...but who knows

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

I see a 8 -3 split.

Right now, Hobart is more deserving than St. Thomas.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

If I am SNC I am hoping for only three from the west. It is not fun to play a play in game when you are the #1 seed. They would much rather go right to the quarter final.

Us westerners could hope for a 7/4 split with three Wednesday games out east and two western quarterfinals :)

This is probably why there cant be a 7/4 spilt and why it always seems to be an 8/3. This so that the number 1W team gets a pass to the quarters! Tell me if I am wrong. Unless the west schools have "bad seasons" or rather very even record season (which may be the case this year) vrs. east teams.

Why? Looked at llama's previous post, and answered my own question. Primary criteria = 2-2. Secondary may favor Hobart.

Why? I see it as:

Hobart vs St. Thomas
WIN 0.6111 0 0.7917 1
SOS 0.5509 1 0.5004 0
H2H 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0 0
COP 0- 0- 0 0 0- 0- 0 0
RNK 9- 8- 1 0 5- 2- 1 1
===================
PTS 1- 2

Your forgetting COP
St. Thomas lost to Buffalo...
Hobart has a win and a lose to Buffalo...

Also, the percentage for RNK is actually slightly in favor of St. Thomas .643 to Hobart's .528 even though Hobart has played more ranked opponents. So its actually 2-2

**EDIT: Apologies...you have St Thomas listed as the second column...I did it the other way around

You were correct about the COP, although I have St Thomas RNK at .688.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

In the 10-11 season SNC was the #1 seed and had to play a play in game against Adrian. That was the same season SNC lost in double overtime in the finals.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

You are correct and than even at .688 it doesn't change to much otherwise...Hobart still has a strikingly higher SOS

Not only that, but St Thomas RNK is actually 4-2-1 (since Adrian was never NCAA ranked). Ok Hobart

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Thats a big if, yet St. Thomas is a whole lot more deserving and has a lot better record than the fourth team from the West that snuck in last year. I think they make it.

Although others are putting up very strong arguments against it, I have a sneaky suspicion St. Thomas very well may get in.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

You could definitely be right...but my gut says Hobart gets the nod based on their current streak (against ranked teams). At this point I guess we just sit back and wait...fire up the popcorn!!
