Tournament Speculation Thread

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

I have seen it on here a in a few places but, I'm sorry Plattsburgh (at least shouldn't) will not be jumping Oswego in the seeding. I think they are firmly the #2 seed in the east and Platty will be the 3rd. 'Wick is the #1 and they can have that dreaded target on the back. I have never liked my favorite teams to have that ranking, #2 is certainly working out for Syracuse hoops right now.

Agreed. Oswego takes the #2 on their record against ranked teams. Question is (if Amherst wins tomorrow), who's the #3?

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

That's what could get interesting but I think Platty is pretty firm in the 3 spot. Oswego deserves the #2 spot not only for amount of quality wins but just the overall body of work. 22-3-2 is nothing to sneeze at.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

If they were chossing between the two, St. Thomas gets the point for win% and Hobart has SOS. No COP or H2H points are in play....how do they compare on RNK- could that be the deciding factor?

Also, if Amherst loses the NESCAC and the final Pool C spot came down to Hobart v Amherst it looks like Hobart wins on 4 of the 5 criteria...or am I missing something?

St Thomas takes the record against ranked teams 4-2-1 vs 9-8-1.

Good question. Amherst definitely has the RNK over Hobart, even if they lose. But you're correct, 3 of the 5 go to Hobart.

Amherst, with a win, beats Platts in WIN%, COP, and RNK. I think 3 out of 5 categories gets them #3.

Got it - thanks. Where are you finding up-to-date info the the RNK stats...can't seem to find this anywhere?

One thing that might change, and we will never know is Rank. With a win over Oswego, Plattsburgh may be ranked ahead of Amherst by the NCAA. Then Plattsburgh has 3 out of 5!

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Rethought, with help from llama -

Pool A:

ECAC-E: Norwich
ECAC-NE: Wentworth
MASCAC: Plymouth
MCHA: MSOE/Adrian
MIAC: G.A.
NCHA: St. Norbert
NESCAC: Middlebury/Amherst
SUNYAC: Platts

Pool C

Oswego for sure
Elmira most likely
If Amherst loses all else is chaos :D

We will never "know" (thanks to the mystery rankings), but RNK is record against ranked teams. And with Oswego currently at 10-2-2 (.786) vs Platts at 7-3-4 (.643), changes in who qualifies as a "ranked" team are unlikely to make it 3 out of 5 Platts.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Unless the West ranking gang moves UST up, they are not currently in consideration for a Pool C.

They need to get to West #3 in order to be considered.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

They have to consider USTRecord 18-5-3
UST best record in West
UST ranked 8th USCHO
NCAA ranked 11

Beat Gustavus twice in season MIAC playoff winners
Beat Adrian

March Insomnia

March Insomnia

You know, I just had a thought as I lie-awake thinking about this sh(tuff) at 4:30 in the friggin’ morning (yeah, it’s a sickness)... Let’s say Amherst and Adrian both win today, and Hobart gets a pool C along with Elmira. Not only do the planets align in a manner so that Elmira makes it to the NCAA’s, but we could also end-up hosting a play-in game on Wednesday!

Hobart would be seeded below Elmira due to criteria, and therefore sent to Adrian for one play-in. Elmira would also be destine for a play-in game and host Wentworth in the Domes while Plymouth State heads to the home of whoever ends-up with the #4 seed in the East.

OK... back to bed now...

Re: March Insomnia

Where's the link to that NCAA mileage calculator? I knew should've bookmarked it

Gotta go to each team's schedule and figure it our for ourselves. I've only been obsessed by this for the last 3 years, but I can't find anywhere where it's published or updated.

Much like the NCAA Rankings, USCHO has a whole page devoted to it. However, they choose to leave the pages blank and not update the information. So, yes, at least for this year you have to calculate it yourself.

Matt, are you talking about the Pairwise comparisons, or some other page on USCHO? I seem to remember having this problem in the past couple of years as well.

Yes, they have a section in the PWR for RNK and they choose to not put in the effort to update it, they also have this page for the NCAA Rankings which is never updated.
