Top Chef D.C. - Season 7

Re: Top Chef D.C. - Season 7

When's the last time Angelo won anything? I think he's good at hyping himself, but not the best chef there, like he seems to say.

Re: Top Chef D.C. - Season 7

Think Amanda is the last weak link. The others might not match the skills of last year's finalists, but they all have come out with good dishes during the challenges. It should be interesting to see who rises to the top.

Re: Top Chef D.C. - Season 7

Note to self: If Tom Colicchio comes over for dinner don't use frozen pastry. :D

Better yet, make him cook!

Despite Kevin's best efforts, Amanda could not hold on any longer. Some of the quiet unassuming participants start to look like the better chefs, go figure.

His attitude has turned around 180 degrees the last few weeks (at least what they are showing us). He's not cocky and he seems very humble. I'm pulling for him and Ed at this point.

Granted, I haven't watched the whole season, but he seems more panicked than humble to me. It will be interesting to see next week if the pressure gets to him. I think he's been lucky the past couple of weeks with Ed and Amanda in the bottom group with him making terrible dishes, but I agree with Vizoroo that Amanda was the last "weak link". Can he calm down and just remember that he can cook as well as anyone else there?

I think Kevin is facing a lot of that pressure, too. Kelly (until this week), Tiffany, and Ed have been strong, and probably have plenty of confidence right now. Especially Tiff and Ed.

Do note- it's not like Kelly was bad- the bottom 4 out of 6?? IMHO, you could just as easily see that as top 3. She did darned well.

But it's starting to look like a Tiffany/Ed race to the end- they are really stretching their legs at this point.

Funny how another has gone home from direct advice from Angelo. I agree that Amanda was about time- but her core issue came directly from the advice of Angelo- cutting the fish the day before with the meat grinder. It seemed like the rest of the dish was good enough to survive with.

You know Angelo has had a strategy all along. But his Russian fiancee that he has only seen a couple of times...seems a little weird to me.

Hated to see Tiffany pack her knives.....but I think it was the right call last night.

Re: Top Chef D.C. - Season 7

I was not impressed with the qulaity of the chefs until last night. To go into a foreign place like Singapore and basically make near perfect dishes was very impressive. Though the way the producers put it together, the negative comments only showed at judging and not tasting, which bothered me.

Ed is being a jerk towards Angelo; I don't like it. I can't recall someone being so openly out to get someone near the end like this.

The Kenny-Angelo rivalry got most of the air time during the first part of the season, bit Ed and Angelo have known each other prior to TC. Guessing that may be part of the reason. Think Ed was over the top last night, but I still prefer his dry, sarcastic wit compared to Angelo's smarmy weirdness.

Agreed on the negative comments - I, in fact, said this to tcbg as we were watching the episode. I, too, have been waiting for this quality of food all season and am wondering *why* we hadn't seen it earlier?

I can't stand the whole hate-on-Angelo part of this season. Yeah, the guy is a tool...so what? Cook your food and beat him on the plate...

Wow, didn't see that one coming, right up until the dessert course. Seemed to me Tom made it clear to Ed his dessert cost him the crown.

You have to know how to make a dessert, I'm convinced that's what did in Stefan as well. Don't just throw some crap on a plate.

I'm not totally psyched about Kevin's win as I was really pulling for Ed. I thought his food was really beautiful and well thought out. I did feel bad for Angelo, despite not liking him, that he got sick right before the final. Lucky that he had Hung though - I'm not sure that any of the other chefs could have prepared as much as quickly, though I'm curious what would have come of a Mike V/Angelo meal.

Anyone interested in watching Just Desserts?

Ed should have had a killer desert idea in his back pocket knowing he's probably have to make one. He really blew it there.

How many overall wins did Kevin have? Didn't Ed and Angelo clean up on most of them?

I DVR'd it and just got done watching it. Lots of divas it what it seems like to me, but I think it might be a nice change of pace from regular Top Chef. This is the only season of TC that I've watched that didn't have me rooting for someone... I really didn't care who won last night. This season didn't really excite me at all.

I think I'd really enjoy being a taster on Just Desserts, though :)
