Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

Interesting....it seems the players want Red Gendron to come back and be their coach. Is that something UMass would consider?
Red apparently interviewed. I'd be in favor of him. I think the fan base would for the most part like the hire too.

As I said at the beginning, given the $$ they're rumored to be offering and the lack of support from the ath dept it just isn't that attractive of a job

Is gene defillippo running this search?

McCutcheon says he's willing to offer an "enticing salary." He also claims that no one has been offered the job yet.

take him as "interim head coach"
EVERY SINGLE TIME he went somewhere as interim head coach, he brought his team to the NCAA final.... UMass should keep that streak alive
NCAA Final sounds great to me. How do we get Timmay signed up?

This coaching search is a joke.

not sure what the problem is... you WILL be a state employee. couple years on the job and then you can call in sick for another ten years, then retire with lifetime pension and health insurance :p

working for the pike is hard, man

I ran into Bob Corkum at the grocery store on Monday. I asked how the summer was going he said things were coming along nicely. I asked about the future and how things looked. I asked him if he thought Montgomery would get/was going after the UMass job. He said that he didn't think so as they have been offering the job to everyone lately... So I asked, "what about you"? He said that he has submitted his resume and was excited about an opportunityto be a Head Coach, (something he always dreamed of) and to return his family to Mass if given the chance (be closer to his daughter/grandson and his parents).

I've gotten to know Bob a bit as being a season ticketholder since 2005. I think that it is a shame that his name didn't appear in the of candidates over a few others, it would be stupid not to consider him as an option with hi NHL pedigree, defensive experience, USA hockey connections (headed to U18's again this year for TeamUSA.

If UMass doesn't consider the option, (he knows hockey east and isn't thinking of taking over at UMaine) as Tim is still here and everyone thinks that Montgomery is the next successor (new 2 year deal evens out his time with Tim...)

Just my two cents on the issues. I would hate to see him leave the program, but know that he would be a great choice to lead the Minutemen... Budget support or not

Corkum or Gendron would be ideal choices and I would hate to see Corkum leave UMaine, but didn't know that he was looking down the road to be a Head Coach....a good move for UMass along with bringing Gendron on board as a Assistant if that could also happen....one thing for sure that must be on all rader screens in Maine is the reupping of a deal by Montgomery at Dubuque for 2 years and the 2 years left on Whiteheads deal....I would hate to see Corkum leave but going to be a Head Coach would be ideal for him and as always making Hockey East stronger from top to bottom....Good Luck if it is Corkum,he will be in my opinion a solid move for the future of UMass Hockey.

My sources are telling me that Joe Mallen is interested in the job...

Re: Toot Cahoon Steps Down as UMass Head Coach

I heard a rumor that one of the Lamaraoux sisters from North Dakota is looking and interviewing for a coaching job, (whether it's Head, Assistant, Goaltending.... I don't know) at a couple schools. I have NO proof, credibility, and NOTHING to base that on. If that were true, and whichever girl it could or would be.... would kind of make sense. Both of them could be a huge addition to any team in that capacity.

There's something to be said for running your own show. But for cav I'd consider it a step down all things considered

Agree on both counts.

FWIW... I was commenting on RenceB stomping on himself regarding his HS dating exploits. :D
