Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

Because we know better than that. :p

NMU has long enjoyed screwing over Michigan State on their own. It was the 2008 playoffs where NMU took State to OT in game three and won, causing Anastos to be visibly upset in the Munn press box.

1999 - CCHA Semifinal (@JLA): Beat MSU 5-3.
2002 - CCHA Quarterfinal (@JLA): Lost to MSU 2-1.
2003 - CCHA Quarterfinal (@JLA): Beat MSU 7-5 on some fluky goals (I believe this game the Magnificent tipped one in on his own net).
2004 - CCHA Quarterfinal (@JLA): Beat MSU 2-1 in the CCHA Quarterfinal.
2008 - CCHA Second Round (@Munn): Took a 5-1 thumping from State, squeaked out a 2-1 win to tie the series, Beat MSU in OT in game three. Anastos disgusted.
2009 - CCHA First Round (@BEC): Swept State in two games by a combined 13-to-5 goals.

The 'Cats can hold their own against Sparty. Even when Anastos was pulling the CCHA's strings.

Anastos has his sadistic side as well; back in 2002, the first two games of Rick's career at MSU, the CCHA scheduled MSU to open at NMU. And I do know (having sat behind them at Munn) the Miller family never cared for Rick. So I wonder, how instrumental they were in helping to get rid of him.

Very. Now Karma may come back at one of their own.

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

Just send him a nice check. Would you quit your job just because someone didn't like the way you do it? Especially if that someone critiquing you couldn't do your job in the first place?

It is fairly obvious tCHHCoMSU isn't up to the job. So what should happen davy? Keep him until his contract expires at the end of 2017 season, and hope the AD and board of Trustee's do not give him another extension like last summer? I look forward to your response.

The options are few. Pay him to stay or pay him to leave. To ask anyone to quit and forfeit the remaining terms of their contract is ludicrous.

If a bunch of people who couldn't do your job were to suggest that there must be someone out there who could do YOUR job better and that you should just quit, would you?

Now I don't know the details of TA's contract. How many years are left? Is there a penalty if he voluntarily leaves before completing the contract (such as the current $250,000+ buyouts in the Mel Pearson & Chris Bergeron contract), but it may be that if he just quit, he could owe the university a large sum of money as well. You can bet there are such clauses for Izzo, Merchant and Dantonio.

If Tom Anastos was making the program a great program and quit, yea, the university would most likely penalize him. Seeing how the program is struggling to be competitive , my instinct tells me the university would be thrilled if he just walked away and allowed a search for a new coach to begin.

It doesn't even have to come to that - although I'm with you that MSU could waive any potential penalty. Tom can announce after the Minny sweep, for example, that he's walking away from his contract at the end of the season. The ideal situation allows for our brain-trust to begin the search right away, get someone in place as soon as the lights go out in March, and [insert new guy] can hit the ground with plenty of time to allow for defections/additions for the upcoming campaign.

but why would Anastos voluntarily forfeit the money remaining on his contract? Would you quit your job to please others?

I believe his contract, when extended last year, takes him through the 2017 season. Yes there would be penelties for either side. Resigning or firing. The AD has to ask, ' is tCHHCoMSU the person who should be running this program?' I , my opinion, is that he is not the person for the position. Either, or anyway, he needs to go. By the end of the season at the latest. I am, though, interested in your thoughts on the matter; Should he stay, or should he go?

Re: Tom Anastos, it's time to resign

The myopia, melting and delusion over at the RCMB is hilarious.

Here's RCMB's short list for Tom Anastos' replacement:

Enrico Blasi
Dean Blais
Jeff Jackson
Rick Bennett
Nate Leaman
Keith Allaird
Bob Daniels
Danton Cole
George Gwozdecky
Mel Pearson
Walt Kyle
Chris Bergeron

Anastos is under contract through 2018.

As someone whose team faces State from time to time, it would be nice to see him stay. My feeling when the hire was made was that it was either brilliant or a big mistake with very little in between. I'd still like to know what happened with Cole during that hiring process.

As for my personal thoughts on MSU and Anastos, first, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Ron Mason and Rick Comley. Those men are stewards of college hockey and could give all a prime definition of the word "integrity." As for Anastos, well...the way many Spartan fans treated the last coach to win them a National Championship...in Anastos, they got what they deserved.

This is false, MSU at NMU was the second weekend of the 2002-03 regul

He was never interviewed.

Hollis went all-in on Anastos. He was the only candidate. He was the only person contacted and considered for the position.
