Times Argus

Re: Times Argus

Regardless of the outcome, I want to say a big thanks to Norwich and their great fans from this weekend.
Officially it will be counted as a tie, however the Potsdam Bears won the TA.
The K'berg is a tremendous arena and the people there were great hosts. I was impressed by the welcoming from the Norwich staff. You guys have a great program who I will cheer for in LP.
Although the trek from Montpelier was not fun, the atmosphere made up for it.
Kudos to Norwich and Coach McShane for their great program. You guys do it right. All the best in the future.

Thanks. Very nice to hear. Potsdam showed a lot this weekend. I could make excuses, but Pots deserved it, and the MVP award was right on. The result should give NU a challenge for Tuesday's showdown with Plattsburgh. (Oh yeah, if we'd started Klinger, we'd a won  )

NuProf, I have to say Potsdam did play a very good game and never gave up. In that way, they pulled out a tie, let alone a victory in the TA. Dubois did a good job, just one goal that he should have stopped in the third. Not bad for a freshman in a tournament game. Interesting that we tied a team that tied Plattsbugh using our back up goalie. Talk about depth. I too, could make excuses, but the fact is that Potsdam was the better team tonight and deserved the win. I also want to say that their bench showed better behavior than Curry did with the f-bomb being dropped every few seconds. Potsdam showed class and hopefully Norwich will see them again in the NCAA's.

Re: Times Argus

not sure exactly what your getting at, but NU tied Plattsburgh with Klinger in net..........

Potsdam tied Plattsburgh did they not? Plattsburgh tied us with Klinger in goal, we tied Potsdam with Dubois in goal. That is the point I am making, not a claim of "who was the better team". We'll see on Tuesday I guess.:D

Story of Potsdam's shoot out victory in the Times Argus. I thought Norwich had this one in the bag with 4-5 minutes left leading by 2 goals, however, Potsdam never quit and came back to tie the game with 2 late goals. Hey when you play a good team you don't win every time. Game could of gone like the Potsdam/Plattsburgh game in which Potsdam scored 3 late goals to tie. Very impressive that Potsdam could get back to back ties from both Plattsburgh and Norwich (2 of the best teams in the East). Congrats to Potsdam for hanging in there to the end and playing a great game.

For Norwich I thought Pier-Oliver Cotnoir steped up his game with a goal and assist and had a few nice plays.

Re: Times Argus

Dubois was very good during the second period when NU took that spate of penalties. You do have to give Potsdam a heck of a lot of credit for not letting down when they were down 2 late. They did the same thing to Plattsburgh. Lots of respect is due for that program for the way they played this weekend. I didn't really see it coming, but I tend to wear Maroon and Gold colored glasses sometimes (except when I run my computer program :) )

Re: Times Argus

No matter what happens tomorrow night (against Platty) we are watching some great hockey played, for the most part, by guys who never played together before the first game of the season. Is anyone really unhappy that Norwich is 8-0-2 at this point in the season?

Also, I hope nobody is giving our freshman goalie any crap for his game Saturday night. He played a mostly good game in his second start - and in the championship game of a holiday tournament to boot. Not too bad ... ;) I think we'll be seeing great things from him in the future.

Congrats to the Bears for their annoying habit of climbing out of the well just before the final buzzer. They've done it against two pretty tough opponents and also had a come-from-behind win against NEC.

OK, no Times-Argus trophy this year but it's on to a rematch with Plattsburgh. I'll be up for this game. Will you?

Re: Times Argus

I think Norwich is one of the best teams in the country this season. In fact, if I voted, they would still be my number 1. However, blaming a tie vs. a program on the upswing like Potsdam on your backup goalie is beyond lame.

Could not agree more on your comment regarding blaming the backup goalie. I will however disagree with your comment regarding Norwich being a #1 team only because 8 of their 10 games have been played in the friendly confines of the Kreitzburg arena. I agree that they look good but let's see how they do on the road before they are given the lofty position.

Re: Times Argus

right on the money about taking the show on the road. If we can win on the road on the smaller ice surfaces we could be dangerous. No one here is blaming the young man that played goal for anything. He did a fine job, especially in the second period.

Re: Times Argus

If you take away Potsdams loss to Oswego, they have loss all games by 1 goal (except the 1 ENG goal against Morrisville)....hate to say it but I gotta agree with Dukesters comment about Potsdam being a sleeper. A few more bounces and playing a full 60 minute game...Potsdam could surprise a few more teams this year.

I said this last year after Potsdam beat Oswego!

Good to hear about the goalie situation. No reason to ruin a young mans confidence.:)

At least in my case, watch the smilies - please - :)

There is no way of knowing how the game would have gone with a different goalie. In fact I specifically noted how well Dubois played in period 2 (when he was right in front of me). What happened is what happened. I don't believe in playing the "outplayed, but lost (tied)" game. The result that happened is the one that counts and Pots deserved the title.

Re: Times Argus

Next year should be interesting.

It looks like this years participants, NEC and Curry, will be in the Cardinal Classic next year?

We'll have two teams we've never seen, and one we seldom see.
