Times Argus

Re: Times Argus

Cripes - if you live in the North Country, you can pretty much drive in anything. I drove a few times from Clarkson to NJ (or vice versa) in some pretty bad stuff.

I hear you have something up there that is lacking down here in Maryland -- snowplows. :)

joecct-
Driving thru a Nor'easter is not enjoyable and not something I wish to do again. Its the other clowns on the roads I worry about not me.
We'll see how it goes.
As far as what Maryland doesn't have, I do know they have crabcakes and football. :D

Hell I got my own Plow:D

Yeah, but when I left the North Country and settled in Rochester, I learned what real snow is.

Re: Times Argus

Enough about the weather!! Can someone please talk about the games!! :)

Looks like NEC/Pots is a pretty good matchup. Looking at my computer rankings, I was surprised to see Pots ahead of NEC, but looking inside the nos. - both teams with exactly 0.500 win%, but Potsdam has a stronger SOS, and has beaten teams with better records than the teams that NEC has beaten. To tell the truth, I was writing Potsdam off in that one until I looked closer. Should be interesting.

NU/Curry looks like the best matchup of the tournament. Both teams undefeated with just a tie. Curry loves to play a tough NC schedule, and I really respect them for that. Curry and NU actually have very similar OWPs, but but Norwich's schedule is deeper in the sense that their OOWP is much better. I think NU takes this one, but it won't be as easy as beating SNHU.

Re: Times Argus

What is the format for end of regulation ties? 5 minute OT then a shootout?

I apologize for "hijacking" the thread with the weather discussion.

5 + Shootout (IIRC)

Don't worry about the weather we always think about it :)

I wrote in my last 2009 column that Potsdam could be the sleeper team of the second semester. They are playing better and better, are getting much better goaltending than most thought they would this year, and opposing coaches are quite impressed with what Potsdam is showing on the ice this year especially with their first line.

This tournament could tell us whether Potsdam really is a team to be reckoned with in 2010.

Re: Times Argus

IIRC:confused: Has it been that long:p

T/A is not the Primelink. :) :) The T/A is a Norwich event, the Primelink is shared by the three permanent competitors - theoretically, NU might be the only school of the triad that wanted a tournament with the long form OT - which is allowed by the NCAA. Just sayin'

I always make sure to watch the Rose Bowl every year. And now the Potsdam-NEC game is on the web at almost the same time.

Rose Bowl on TV. Hockey game on the laptop. Nirvana accomplished.

They seem to do a good job. I watched a couple of football games -- the picture was good and there was very little buffering.

Re: Times Argus

Different tournament, potentially different rules.

Technicially, it is true they have a choice:

Any game played to a conclusion, under any circumstances, counts as that outcome for NCAA purposes. While it is true that most regular season games end after five minutes of overtime, if one team must win to advance to a second round of a tournament, the outcome of the game is official and "counts" for both teams. A team losing 10 minutes into overtime has a loss, just as if it had lost in regulation time. If tournament organizers choose to end the game after five minutes of overtime and play a shootout, then the game is recorded as a tie for NCAA purposes.

Hopefully, the Rules Committee will address it definitively in the future.

Reducing or eliminating ties. The committee believes a change is in the best interests of the game and voted to implement changes at its June 2010 meeting to either reduce or eliminate tie games. The committee will collect and consider all written proposals from the membership.
