This Week in Hockey East

Re: This Week in Hockey East

With all the non Beanpot schools fiannaly catching up with their games in hand we have a stratified standings like we all thought coming into the season.

NU and bc seem to have the byes in their control. NU clinches with a win Saturday or Sunday, and controls their destiny for 1st place, while bc only needs 5/8 points from UVM and UConn.

bu, Maine and PC are all tightly grouped for the 2 home ice slots.

And down at the bottom UVM, UConn and UNH are all in the running to make a playoff appearance.

There are bound to be a few surprises left in the regular season anyone care to say what they will be? I think either UConn or UVM might steal one of their games against bu/bc.

I think that will definitely happen since it pretty much happens every year. You have teams playing their best hockey because they are desperate to keep their seasons alive and on the flip side, you have teams that know they have a spot in the tourney regardless of the result. Obvious example is when Maine beat both BU/BC last year to take that last playoff spot. To add on, I am not that impressed with BC this year (might be bias since I've seen BU put two whoppings on BC without a fully healthy roster) and wouldn't be surprised at all if they dropped some pts here and there down the stretch. The regular season title should be Northeastern's for the taking and I WILL be surprised if they don't win it.

Tuesday's Beanpot matchups should be fun and have pretty important post-season consequences. I'll actually be rooting for BC to beat Harvard as that should help with knocking all those ECAC teams in the top 12 PWR down a bit and give credibility to the HE teams. Of course, I am hoping we can beat Northeastern in the night game but I think Northeastern will be the favorite as they already own a 2-1 record against us (almost 3-0) and we may be without Poulin again as she did not play against UNH and is possibly re-injured.

Anyone know why Poulin didn't play against UNH?

Re: This Week in Hockey East

I heard they where just resting her an she will play on Tuesday.

Thanks for the info GC2. Northeastern has been very impressive this year so not having Poulin wouldve been a huge dent in any chances of a Beanpot title.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

Last week, the only "sure-thing" bets turned out to be Maine. They won both their games against Vermont. Boston U was a close follow, but they still had a couple of us fooled into choosing UNH! :D

Regarding standouts, Joehockey was the only one who chose PC over BC (:o) and both Hockeyfan111 and Eastfan got UConn over UNH.

Hockeyfan 111...................6.........75%
Joe Hockey.......................6.........75%

NU over bc was counted as a tie right?

Nu over bc was counted as a tie right?

I'm smelling a controversy :)

Can we revert back to the rules posted at the start of the year?
Were they posted, and if so did they take this scenario into account ?.

Re: This Week in Hockey East

I need that NE game to be a win! I had the Beanpot right.

Picking HE is tough. Everyone ties everyone. Take a look at the # of ties in HE versus the WCHA. Same number of teams but 32 ties versus 16.

You should get extra credit for the tie pick.

That is correct, NUWH. The same thing happened last year with NU and Harvard. The game officially ended in a tie but since the Beanpot needed someone to go on, there was a shootout. (I looked for the thread from last year but couldn't find it  Anyways, Freak said it was a tie and he is always right ;))

I'm smelling a controversy :)

The rules at the beginning of the season definitely didn't cover this kind of scenario.:o What did yours say?

Re: This Week in Hockey East

Hate to admit it, but did not cover that scenario either. Typically is a non-issue in the ECAC (No Shootouts). Like you, would revert to the NCAA ruling, goes in the books as a tie.

This years ECAC rules dated Oct 13, 2011:
A few weeks of NC games in the books. Time to get this poll rolling for this year. Rules are the same as last year. Pick a winnner or a tie game. One point per correct pick. We will have a weekly winner, and keep yearly standings for those that participate in at least 75% of the games. Runs from Monday to Sunday each week. Yearly standings will include both a correct pick count and a correct percentage count. Picks have to be in before the drop of the puck on the first game, one pick post per week please.

Good luck and enjoy the season.

Which refer to last years ECAC Poolie Rules from Oct 20, 2010:
With the Ivies starting up in earnest this week, time to dust off the ECAC prediction contest from years past. We do not want to be left in the dust by the CHA and HE.

I mean the number one ranked team hails from the ECAC. :) :D :)

Scoring will be simple. 1 point of each correct pick, win, tie or loss. Results will be posted ranked on both points and percentage. To be eligible for the percentage award, you must pick all the games, and be part of the weekly picks at least 75% of the time.

Good Luck and lets have some fun.

In protest of losing my NE Beanpot pick, I am picking every team to tie this week. Yes, every game.
