Re: This Week In Hockey East, Volume II: Now Even Hockey East-ier!

Is this the consensusiest (sp?) week yet?

Sat 02/08/14
*Boston College* at Connecticut
New Hampshire at *Boston University* -- two teams with issues to deal with, going with home ice.
*Northeastern* at Providence -- the NU hot streak has to break sometime, and PC will be home with a good crowd, but based on Tuesday NU are still more than hungry enough to take this.
Maine at *Vermont* -- you have to fancy VT over anyone below them.

Sun 02/09/14
Connecticut at *New Hampshire* -- UNH have home ice (and lots of it), Conn won't be able to keep up.

Tue 02/11/14
Harvard vs *Boston University* -- This would be a great match for BU to break their freefall, and they were decent enough from the second period on against BC. Question is whether Northeastern was a wakeup call for Harvard or whether it'll take a more serious loss to get them going.
Northeastern at *Boston College* -- nuff said.

Re: This Week In Hockey East, Volume II: Now Even Hockey East-ier!

Log jam at the bottom of Hockey East!

Home ice in the playoffs (if the season ended today) looks like the following - but who they will play is unclear.

#1 BC 29 points

#2 BU 24 points

#3 NU 20 points (remains hot beating PC this weekend behind great goaltending)

#4 Vermont 19 points

UCONN 3 UNH 1 big weekend for UCONN recording two wins to move into 5th.

#5 Connecticut 13 points (5-9 in 2014 and are 3-3 in last 6 games) - play NU & Maine in final four games

#6 Providence 12 points (remains unable to score despite generating lots of shots - 4-7 in 2014 and 1-5 in last 6 games) - home and home with BU and then finish with series at Vermont

#7 New Hampshire 10 points (are 2-10 for 2014 and 0-6 in last six games) - home series against Vermont then home and home with NU

#8 Maine 9 points (3-4 for 2014 and 3-3 in last six games) - Home series versus BC and final series at UCON

PC has never not qualified for Hockey East Tournament they need to catch fire to keep the streak alive and pull off an upset to return to Hyannis.

Right now there are three teams getting burned by Connecticut's flame.

This week's WHEA awards:

WARRIOR HOCKEY CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#29 ELAINE CHULI, UCONN
(Sophomore Goaltender; Waterford, Ont.)
How about stopping 99% of your shots and being named First Star in both games? That was Chuli's weekend, blanking BC, 2-0, while stopping all 45 shots, and then denying UNH on 38 of 39 shots in a 3-1 win.

WARRIOR HOCKEY CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#9 SARAH LEFORT, BOSTON UNIVERSITY
(Sophomore Forward, Ormstown, Que.)
Lefort had a 5-goal week, scoring four of them in a 7-4 win over UNH on Saturday, after scoring the Terriers' only goal in a 4-1 Beanpot loss to BC on Tuesday.

PRO AMBITIONS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
#44 VICTORIA ANDREAKOS, VERMONT
(Freshman Forward; Aurora, Ont.)
Had the game-winning goal in Vermont's 2-1 win over Maine on Saturday, helping the Catamounts extend its lead to six points for the fourth and final home ice playoff spot.

WHEA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
#29 CHLOE DESJARDINS, NORTHEASTERN
(Junior Goaltender, Saint-Prosper, Beauce, Que.)
Led the Huskies into the Beanpot final by stopping 27 shots in a 4-3 win over #4 in the nation Harvard. Followed up with 29 saves in a 3-1 win at Providence.
